#RIP Prince

I’ve always loved Prince. His music, yes, but also his attitude, his whole being. There’s no one else like him in music. A singular talent who kept to himself (sound familiar? 🙂 ). He lived in Toronto for quite a while but sadly I never ran into him at Timmies.

I love his own songs but also this song he wrote for The Bangles….

Expert art historian* analyzes @DavidArchie painting

From Da Vinci to Caravaggio, all great artists hide visual clues to deeper meanings within their best work. Here, the turkey, cat and classic squiggly pig all scream one thing. “A turkey, ham club sandwich would be purrr-fect right about now.”

All expressions of creativity produced by an artist speak volumes about their innermost longings, their view of the universe and the extent to which they were bored that day.

So here is a careful examination and analysis of David’s latest creative endeavour, as analyzed by a very expert and yet amateur art historian*.

1. Blue signifies he’s feeling blue. Or the blue paint was on sale.

2. The use of white space indicates the wide open vistas of creativity he’s currently experiencing. Or that he wanted to make it a blue sky but then realized, d’oh.

3. The black outline clearly means he does prefer brunettes to blondes.

4. The red paint is untouched. As is Canadian soil for any concerts. And our flag is red and white. Am I reading too much into this? I think not.

5. The mystery animal stares straight ahead at the viewer, daring us to mock him for his awkward ears or snout with no nostrils. Does the creature not know by now that we love his awkwardness and, well, snout? Sheesh.

6. Each brushstroke is vertical, self-assured, and well within the lines. Symbolizing an aversion to the name Constantine.

7. The composition is balanced and symmetrical, sending a message that order may be maintained so long as no rogue videos of Numb pop up on YouTube because if they do, those involved will be wrapped in bacon and thrown into a cage with a real-life version of this rabid blue beast, known as The Archulator, who dwells in the deep, dark, ancient forests of upper Slovenia.

You can also clearly tell from this painting who David plans to vote for in the upcoming U.S. election and his very insightful take on climate change, but since it’s so obvious, there’s no need to spell it out.

A security camera happened to catch this very important conversation.*

The camera follows David Archuleta as he pushes a cart through Whole Foods, pausing to read the label on a box of Honey Bunches of Oats.

His phone starts blasting a tinny “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp.”

“Whoa, that’s American Idol‘s ringtone! Haven’t heard from them in a while,” he says to Winnie, the 96-year-old grocery clerk who’s just told him her life story, which he plans to write a song about after giving her a lift home and painting her shutters. David puts the call on speaker phone, tossing the cereal box in his cart. “Hola!”

“Hi Mr. Archewletta, I’m an intern here making initial calls, glad I caught you. I’m calling about the final American Idol finale.”

“Huh? The series is ending?? I had no idea. What with the Pokemon anniversary and all, I’ve been pretty busy.” Winnie winks at David, cracks open the cereal box and they both start snacking.

“Yes, it’s going to be the last show and there’s lots of big plans in the works.”

“Plans? From who?”

“From that Idol bigwig … the British guy.”

“Which one?”

“The one with the dyed hair, fake tan and Botox.”

“Gotta narrow it down for me, dude.”

“Um, not sure actually, they kind of all blend together. Anyway, some exciting things in the works!”

“Cool! Not sure I can make it though, I’ll see what I can do but can’t promise anything. My singing roused six people from comas last week and I have 10 more scheduled over the next few days.”

“Wow, that’s incredible.”

“No biggie. I’m sure all the other Idol alums are doing the same. I’m curious, what do you guys have planned?”

“Great stuff. Dynamite. The producers want to get back to focusing on the contestants.”

“Awesome! So, some group numbers with the Top 10?”

“Um, no.”

“Some of their original songs?”

“Nope.”

“Duets with the finalists and current bands, like the one I did with One Republic?”

“No, not that either. But we know how much the contestants love the judges so each judge gets a 10 minute solo. With back-up dancers. And dry ice. Even a judge everyone forgot was on the show. She gets 15 minutes. You know, to focus on what the contestants want.”

“Mkaaay.”

“And there’s a country-western tribute.”

“With all the Idol alums doing country music?”

“Ya! Plus Constantine. And there’s a rock medley too.”

“With all the Idol alums doing rock music?”

“Yes. Oh, Constantine’s in that one too.” The intern rifles through his notes. “There must be some mistake here… this list shows Constantine’s in every single number.”

“Wow.”

“He even volunteered to sing  ‘She Bangs’.”

“Cool.”

“The producers really want some special ‘moments’ for the finale, since that’s what Idol’s famous for.”

“Great! Gee, I really wish I wasn’t so booked up. I could sing ‘The Prayer’ or my hit song ‘Crush’ or David Cook and I could duet in a tribute to Michael Johns.”

“All terrific ideas, but we had an even better one.”

“Like what?”

“That you sing ‘Imagine’ as a duet.”

“With Trent? I heard he really liked that song.”

“No, with Crying Girl, I’ve got her agent on the other line.” The intern hears a dial tone. “Mr. Archewletta? Are you there?? Hello? Hello?”

Winnie, in one of her classic Tai Chi moves, high-kicks David’s phone into the produce aisle where it bounces across the arugula, rolls through the peas, then sleeps with the zucchini.**

And they all lived conspiracy theoryishly ever after.

Lots of chatter, speculation and wild theories about whether or not David will appear in the American Idol finale episodes this week.

I’m hoping he rappels down from the ceiling in white wings for a killer rendition of Angels at the piano, but that’s probably just me.

Some fans are so vexed at the thought that he refused (which we don’t know he did) AI’s invite (which we don’t know they sent), that they are ready to flee the fandom. Everyone has their breaking point, I guess. What’s yours?

A love letter to @DavidArchie fans

Bear with me, this is going to get soppy, lol.

For me, this has been an emotional and deeply spiritual four days of family time and lots of church stuffs (including the poignant and beautiful (Holy Thursday), emotionally wrenching and beautiful (Good Friday) and joyful and beautiful (Easter vigil)).

And then add two David shows into the mix and I am (to quote Numb) done, done, done… in a good way.

I have found it so special, in fact, that I wanted to send out a special, HUGE thank you to all the fans who share the show with those of us who aren’t able to be there.

The tweeters, IGers, videographers, bloggers, Periscopers… and Abrra 🙂 … WE LOOOOOVE YOU!!!! These fans don’t have to do this. They could very quietly and anonymously enjoy the show on their own. They owe us nothing. But I suspect they’ve been at home, wishing they could be at a show and do feel our pain.

Plus, I suspect that overwhelming love of humanity that comes over you at a David show prompts them to want to share that incredible experience with the whole world.

I know we all appreciate that so much and I hope these lovely peeps all feel that love. Just like I hope David feels our love and support and it buoys him, not overwhelms him.

And I’m fine with peeps sharing audio only or faraway snippets or blurry shots or whatever… in fact, I totally understand David wanting to see people’s faces enjoying the show rather than a sea of heads staring at phones… and I also totally understand people not wanting to shove a camera in David’s face for 90 minutes… I’m greedy but not that greedy, lol.

Also a shout-out to the screamers and clappers and cheerers and dancers who channel all of our collective excitement and rejoicing into those concert halls to send David the message that YES! YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE AND WE ARE HERE TO CHEER YOU ON, GOD WILLING!!!!

In other words, thank you. Merci. Gracias. Grazie. All the thank yous.
