It’s really too bad this girl is already married, they have so much in common! Both beautiful, both wear shirts buttoned right up to choking level, both cap-wearers, and she brings him food … more specifically, “simple but good” pizza (as opposed to the dreaded, complicated bad pizza). This @rhiminee post is a must-read too. It made me think of a convo I had with my dad yesterday. He rarely asks me about work or life, or anything, lol, but all of a sudden he blurted out: “So how is Mr. Archuleta?” Like we’re buds.

I said, “um, fine I think. He’s working on new music.”

Dad: “What kind of music does he do exactly? How would you describe it?”

Me: “He calls it ‘soulful pop’.”

Dad: “Soulful pop??”

Like I’d said ‘existential Klingon rap.’

Me: “Well, it’s pop music but he sings with a lot of soul, so it has a soulfulness to it.”

Dad: “Can you hum me a few bars?”

I  contemplated humiliating myself by belting out Elevator but reconsidered.

Me: “He writes his own songs but you’ve probably heard the songs he covers… do you know Peter Gabriel’s ‘Don’t Give Up’?”

Dad: “No.”

Me: “Everybody Hurts by REM?”

Dad: “No.”

Me: “The U2 song Pride?”

Dad: “No.”

My dad only listens to classical and opera, so I finally saw the futility of listing every song on BEGIN… Oh wait, he also likes Spanish music.

Me: “He speaks Spanish so he’s written some really good Spanish songs too.”

Dad: “Spanish? Oh, that’s nice.”

My dad likes to tease us a lot so it took me a while to realize what he was doing. He was trying to understand something that he knows is really important to me…the music I love.

What a song for David to sing… I had never heard it before and only looked up the original after hearing David’s version.

Can’t stop listening to it. Very powerful, very moving and so very different than we’ve ever heard him. Loved it. To me, it seemed like a tiny glimpse of what David’s capable of doing, a peek at the future … at what lies in store. A place where message meets emotion. Wow.

Such a personal song for the original artist and yet universal in so many ways, those are the best songs, imo. Can totally see why David relates to it.

I had to look up the background of the original artist and the story of the song… where else, Wikipedia 🙂

[Lukas Graham] frontman Lukas Graham Forchhammer described “7 Years” as a song about his life so far and what he hopes to achieve in the future. He said that the reason the lyrics go as far as the age of 60 is because his father died at 61 and he needed to “pass it to believe it.” He continued: “It’s a song about growing older. I’m also coming to a realisation that being a father is the most important thing. My biggest dream is not to be some negative old dude, but to have my kids’ friends say, ‘You’re going to visit your dad? Say hi! He’s awesome.’ I had a perfect father.”

Regarding the band’s prior failure to break into the UK market Forchhammer stated, “It’s like my father died at exactly the right moment – and I know that’s something I shouldn’t say, but I just did! If my dad hadn’t died in 2012 I wouldn’t have written our song Happy Home, which catapulted us into a Scandinavian success story. I wouldn’t have written 7 Years, which got us signed to a publisher in America and ultimately signed to Warner Bros.”
