The Josh Factor

So has anyone else noticed something “different” about David?? That he’s … idek … in a Good Place?

Has the inner exploration required to express the deepest feelings of his character, Josh, brought David to a whole new level of artistic amazingness? Maybe we’ll need two years to deal? Whatever it is, bring. it. on.

In the meantime, here are my fave highlights from the past couple of days. What do you guys think?

“But what really made it great was that I started to get out of my comfort zone, including trying more food and being more adventurous. Everyone was supportive and the TV5 management was just so easy to work with. (The experience) has made me more mature. This isn’t something that I would normally do but I was willing to take on the challenge. I just had time enough before I go on with missionary work for a couple of years. It’s been exciting and it just taught me a lot about myself as a person. It’s so weird because I didn’t expect that at all.”

David sings “Nandito Ako” at the TV5 press conference … LOVE this version… esp. when he turns to serenade the whole cast near the end. *melts*

I just want to steal this moment right away from time….

Photo: @zelle13 / David Archuleta SM Southmall

I’m embarrassed to admit that not only did I completely miss this tweet this morning but I had no idea where it came from (Joy Williams’ song, “Every Moment,” see below). Its significance did, however, hit me like a ton of bricks. Tears may or may not have smudged my mascara.

Not because it’s a sad line, it’s not. It’s beautiful. But “moving on” is a bit of a touchy subject at the mo’ for obvious reasons.

Thanks to lovely @claudiacb, I mustered up the courage to listen to the whole song and I’m glad I did. Its pretty melody and Joy’s soaring voice brought my attention to another part of the song that really hit home: “All these days, they just slip away through our fingers, so don’t let go, hold onto every moment.”

Yes, it’s a musical version of “carpe diem” but it also reminded me of one of my favourite lines of David’s … ever … from Parachutes & Airplanes.

And to me, it doesn’t mean wanting to stop time … although that is tempting 🙂 … but to cherish and treasure each moment.

So what I’m trying to say (in a rather botched fashion, lol) is that there’ll be lots of time for feeling sad, but not right now … so call me Scarlett O’Hara, I prefer to think about that tomorrow.

How about you guys? Still sad? Mad? In a Nandito Ako uplift?

“Every Moment” by Joy Williams

We laughed out loud ‘til we cried
And the tears were sweet
Midnight melted to morning
A moment faded to memory
All these days
They just slip away through our fingers
So….

Don’t let go
Hold onto every moment
Always know
Hold onto every moment that You can

We move on with no regrets to our destiny
Held by the hands of the Father
We share His love and He leads us through
All these days
They just slip away through our fingers
So…

CHORUS

Running through yesterday into tomorrow
Don’t let it just drift away
Forget about tying the hands of time
Give every minute to the One who gave us today

Part 2: @DavidArchie #NanditoAko script leaks (not really)

The main plot of David Archuleta‘s new TV5 miniseries, Nandito Ako, may revolve around his character, Josh Bradley, rediscovering family roots, his search for identity and a touching love story … but it’s the sports-driven subplot where the real drama takes place … here’s a sneak peek… or not. 🙂

Flirt Alert: David Archuleta … SO ready for his closeup … are we??

"Hey there... the name's Josh."

"How YOU doin'?" (click "Josh" for full interview)

***************

LOVED the on-set interview above (click pic to view … additional footage HERE) … crying scene?? “love triangle”?? that song snippet??? And those killer looks at the camera… Josh, you playah, you! 😆

And still LOLing at the look on David’s face when the interviewer says, “We’ve heard that fans from Vietnam, U.S. and Canada, they’re all coming in to see you act.” David (using every technique learned in acting class to feign calm): “Really???

Also loved this Spot.ph interview, especially David mentioning Johnny Depp… I’m a big Depp fan and I’ve always seen similarities between the two — the way Depp steers clear of all the Hollywood hoopla and focuses on doing projects he believes in, the way he’s shy in interviews but blossoms when he’s performing, and also the way he shed his teen-idol image to become a well respected artist. 🙂

David Archuleta gears up for Nandito Ako, his TV5 mini-serye

Sasha Lim Uy | Published: Jan 17, 2012 – 11:11am

(SPOT.ph) January has been a starry month for the Philippines, so far. After the much-hyped Bourne Legacy filming on Leveriza Street, another international celebrity has landed on our shores, one who needs little introduction.

David Archuleta, who has been to the Philippines three times prior to this latest visit, arrived in Manila on Friday morning, January 13 and made a beeline for a press conference shortly after landing. But don’t go looking for tickets to his concert. The 21-year-old crooner is here for an entirely different project, something that requires minimal singing. Archuleta is set to star in the latest TV5 mini-serye Nandito Ako with Jasmine Curtis and Eula Caballero.

The American Idol alum will play Josh, a Filipino-American singer who returns to his native country. Apart from singing the eponymous Filipino theme song, Archuleta is slated to shoot in the Philippines for an intense three weeks. The program is one of his final commitments before taking a sabbatical from the public eye to fulfill a two-year proselytizing mission for his church.

SPOT.ph sat down with the newest TV5 star as he talked about acting, becoming more mature, and why it’s more fun in the Philippines.

On preparing for his first main acting gig:

“I sort of took (a class) in New York before I came over here. It wasn’t exactly like a class… The lady that I worked with was great. She helped me kind of loosen up. It made me look forward to doing this and that it’ll be fun.”

“She just really taught me (that) instead of  how people sometimes get caught in reading the lines, saying the lines, and acting out the lines, she focused on how I could relate to what the words were even if it wasn’t me. For the most part the character I’m playing is very much me which is nice but there are parts where you have to pretend. So how can you still put yourself in there? How can you still connect? She was great at teaching me to find exercises on how to do that.”

On what kind of drama we’ll expect from him:

“I guess it’s pretty dramatic. There are pretty dramatic scenes in it. It’s right up the alley of (usual) dramas. Like there are parts where I get separated from my mom, and there’s a fire—like that. So it is dramatic. And there are other things going on. Like whatever love triangle is going on. Ha ha ha.”

On the actor he looks up to:

“I guess Johnny Depp. Just because it was interesting to see how he was in interviews, talking, and just the kind of person he tended to be, and then seeing how he got into character when it was time to act.”

On whether he’s going for a more mature image now that he’s 21:

“I guess? I don’t know if I’m ever going to mature. Ha ha ha. I feel like I’m never going to grow up, to be honest, but we’ll see. Whatever happens naturally, that’s what I keep thinking.”

On who he wants to collaborate with in the future:

“I would love to collaborate with Natalie Cole because for me she’s like a legend. She was such a huge inspiration to me. You know, a lot of the inspirations I grew up with, they may not be alive anymore, but she’s one of those people, who, for me is a living legend so I would love to get a chance to do something with her. For some reason, when I was 11 years old, I just loved Natalie Cole. And her dad was Nat King Cole, too.”

On eventually pursuing acting:

“You never know. I never saw myself doing that but just like anything, it opens a door. Let’s see what comes. It’s interesting to see what my thoughts are on acting after this experience because this will be my first. I did do iCarly and Hannah Montana but it was really short, very brief. I just had to be myself.”

On his religious mission:

“It’s very much focused on service—service to people in other communities and being able to change them. It’s also very much about sacrifice. For me, it was very hard because there would be a lot to sacrifice but that was my personal reason why I wanted to go—because of what you sacrifice and what you learn through sacrifice. Not having my family, my career, securer things in my life, I know in a way I will grow a lot which I haven’t been able to, yet. I’m looking forward to it.”

On what strikes him most about the Philippines:

“The number one thing in any place is people. That’s always the thing that strikes me; it’s what I remember the most in anywhere I go, especially here in the Philippines. The people here have always been very gracious, very friendly, and just very supportive. Every single time that we’ve come here, it’s always been [a] great and amazing experience.”

On why it’s more fun in the Philippines:

“I can say that I’ve always had a blast in the Philippines so it’s fun for me when I come here. It’s great.”

UPDATE! David to record English version of “Nandito Ako”! *cartwheels* …
from this Enquirer Entertainment interview:

Pinoy at heart

It was such a thrill to meet David Archuleta of “American Idol” fame. I visited the set of “Nandito Ako,” his dramaserye with TV5, on its first taping day. As soon as we were introduced, he hummed “Hello Dolly” and said it’s one of his favorite songs.

I got to listen to his version of “Nandito Ako.” I was pleasantly surprised that he sang it in almost perfect Pinoy diction. He is also set to record its English version, “Forever With You” (as translated by the song’s composer, Aaron Paul).

He’s a fan of Regine Velasquez, so there are plans for him to meet her and Ogie Alcasid as well. I’m sure Ogie will like David’s version of his hit song, “Nandito Ako.”

Direk Mac Alejandre said David is such a delight to work with. “He knows what’s expected of him. And he’s a perfectionist. Siya mismo ang gustong umulit ng eksena if he feels he can do more. If only he could stay here longer, it would be great to do a movie with him. For a first-time actor, he’s a natural.”

The Archuleta fever has spread across Asia. Fans from neighboring countries are even flying in to watch his tapings. David’s fans from all over Asia will be included in the concert scene of his teleserye (Visit followarchuleta.ph and follow TV5manila@twitter.com.).

He took time out from his hectic schedule to attend a Mormon service last Sunday. After his three-week stay here, he is off to Singapore, before going on a two-year hiatus to fulfill his religious mission.
