… and yo, David, did you not realize you skipped right over an entire country to get to Alaska??? … just sayin’
(Major #fanfail… turns out he also sang Bubbly in Sioux Falls, and Milwaukee (love the audience participation on this one!)
p.s. And just for good measure, here’s David’s Alaska vlog:
p.p.s. new picture?? ALERT THE MEDIAAAA!!!!!!
p.p.p. s. (is there such a thing?) the lovely JR4DA uploaded this video that solves the mystery of the “church slacks” (as told by the AI stylist who picked them)! π
I’m writing this for two reasons… first, I was blessed to see Aretha Franklin in concert last night and wanted to share how aMAZing she still is at 71 years of age.
And second, imagine my surprise when I read the program before the show and learned that she released 10 whole albums…. TEN… before she had a single hit song.
Aretha toured the gospel circuit as a teenager then was signed by Columbia and recorded steadily from 1960 to 1966 “showcased in a variety of settings … while mainstream acceptance eluded her.” (Her father was her manager for these years, btw.)
I almost fell off my chair when I read that. How on earth could mainstream acceptance elude that Voice??? π―
During her Columbia years, they appreciated her talent, Β apparently, but didn’t quite know how to market her. (Is any of this sounding familiar? π )
In 1967, at the urging of her new manager, her husband, she signed with R&B label Atlantic, recorded her 11th LP, featuring Otis Redding’s “Respect,” and the rest, as they say, is history.
I’m mentioning this for all the people, including myself, who’ve experienced any moments of impatience that David assemble the perfect team, sign with the perfect label, find the perfect producer, record the perfect song … NOW… when he’s barely out of his teens.
Aretha undoubtedly worked hard during those early years of recording and performing, honing her craft, learning the business, and I’m sure, enjoying every single second she was able to make a living doing what she loved to do. And I bet her fans during those early years loved having her all to themselves. π
Am I crazy comparing David with Aretha? Heck, no. As I sat in the nosebleed seats of that beautiful hall, listening to that iconic Voice fill every soul there up to the rafters, of course I thought of David, who has the power to do the same… and has done.
My videos suck from last night, sadly, so instead I leave you with this… be prepared for serious chills… her live Amazing Grace recorded in a Baptist church with her preacher dad in attendance, who remarked: “”she has never left the church!”
p.s. adding this appropriate drawing tweeted to me by the lovely @Archugeezer π
Can I just say how much I love Google translate? Because I do. Not only do you get to find out what peeps are saying in languages you could never dream to speak (except random Tagalog words from Nandito Ako), but the quirky poetry of the translations themselves often crack me up… like this one, for instance… I’ve taken the liberty to bold my favourite parts π … enjoy!
Record sales achievements including David Archuleta is not the best, but he was superior in terms of productivity. Since finishing the fight American Idol in 2008, David has recorded six solo albums, including a Christmas album he released in 2009 and his latest album “No Matter How Far” that releases this year. Now, with the new album, there is definitely a mainstay single released as a marker of taste album. Is ‘Do not Run Away’ is more mature in terms of music and vocals at the same time thanks to the hook meremaja contained therein.
There was a feeling he had always played it safe with his music? He was acting less out of the box, almost never make reforms to the music. So ‘Do not Run Away’ answer to such concerns because here David melt a little rock flavor into the pop makeup habit. Identification of the most telling phrase is “do not run away” were repeated several times in the chorus as a hook climax ornate rock aromas that are highlights of the single. Loudness stomping music in this section originally swallowing vocals David, but finally achieved balance each other in the next few seconds.
Do it wrong yourself if you have a feeling familiar with ‘Do not Run Away’. Dynamics such as ‘Crush’ is. It’s just ‘Crush’ mixed with pop and R & B, the ‘Do not Run Away’ is the marriage of pop and rock. Thanks to The Nexus (David Sneddon and James Bauer-Mein) who manage it, make it fresh song to be heard from David emotive vocals. It would be have a sense of its own if we enjoyed while watching the music video for “Do not Run Away ‘. Passable different and memorable.
This video has 1,111,545 views, people! (It probably actually had more, but youTube does very odd things with David’s AI videos, not sure what is going on there.)
In any case, not only does it have over a million views, but people are still watching and commenting on it. tbh, this wasn’t one of my favourite of D’s Idol performances but that week did feature my favourite mentor. Love love LOOOVE Dolly Parton and to see her “get” and appreciate David’s talent was a beautiful thing to watch.
I follow her on Twitter and had to laugh when I saw this tweet pop up the other day:
The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!
I usually don’t like to rewatch the judges comments but I’m glad I did for this one. Paula (as she often did in her wacked-out fashion) was spot on: “You have a wonderful aura about you… you’re glorious.” π
Check out some of the recent comments on the vid (esp. the third one from the bottom):
As much as I can’t see David going country at any point, I do believe he’d be appreciated more in that genre. Country music folk seem to value (and reward) stellar voices, not to mention down-to-earth, genuine character.
And, call me crazy, but when I first heard “Heart Falls Out” (especially the chorus), it sounded very country to me… I can totally hear it with Lady Antebellum style harmonies (and twang) and a few mandolins or fiddles thrown into the arrangement.
Just me? mkay π
p.s. eOne Music has set up a Spotify page for David (sadly, not avail. here… you know, the usual).
In case you were wondering what the heck I listened to over the last month, without David songs to replay, I thought I’d give you a sampling.
I revisited a lot of old favourites (and I mean old), from Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison to Leonard Cohen, Stacey Kent and Linda Ronstadt. Also finally listened to albums I’d bought but hadn’t really listened to much lately, Mumford and Sons, Ed Sheeran and Β Ben Rector, awesome stuff.Β And I discovered a lot of great new music like Of Monsters and Men (from Iceland), Churchill (still have their song “Change” on replay, tbh), a Newfoundland group with angelic harmonies called The Once, andΒ others.
Another Canadian artist I listened to was Kathleen Edwards. She’s a beloved singer/songwriter in this country but you may never have even heard her name.
I’m posting this video because I love what she says here about creativity and the songwriting process, and how she’s chosen artistic integrity over selling out (yes, there is some salty language… jsyk π ).
Well, when I think of the last original song he wrote and shared with us before he left, “Broken,” I can’t help but imagine that that song tapped into a deeper vein of David’s own sound than we had ever heard before. His inner singer/songwriter … a true artist who chooses creative integrity over selling out, as Kathleen talks about in the video.
Who knows what David’s “sound” will be come 2014 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a near cousin of “Broken,” with him at the piano taking us with him to that place he goes when he sings.
p.s. still a little too not over the fact that he wasn’t wearing that fancy shirt in the studio recording it because they were making a video for the song. Oh well, maybe another thing in that big vault of his. π
Please forgive me for being a little punchy right now … we literally drove out of the parking lot of our church tonight (a two-hour Easter vigil service with beautiful candlelight and glorious hymns) and without me saying a word (and my mind on very Holy things, I swear), my husband gave me a knowing look and then … yes … turned on the car stereo… “Down, down, down, down….”
Not gonna lie, I almost burst into tears. In fact I did… inside anyways.
It was like biting into the darkest, best-ever hunk of chocolate … seriously, chocolate immediately came to mind when I heard that voice again.
What am I even saying, I don’t have to tell you guys.
Please forgive me if I sound insane, btw. I may have forgotten how to blog, hahahaha.
These past few days have been hiLARious because one thing I didn’t turn off were David’s Twitter alerts to my phone (they’d been so infrequent that I even forgot I had that set up). Then these past few days, I still don’t know what the tweets were about, haven’t checked yet, but whoah, Spam-A-Thon. Is he BACK or something??? lol
Oh, one more thing, I’ve been reconnecting with a lot of old favourites music-wise, and have discovered a lot of amazing new stuff (more on that later) but nothing NOTHING compares to David. As much as I love the other stuff on my iPod (a lot of which I’ve bought these last 40 days π ), not even one artist compels me to listen to their entire album on repeat. Again, no surprise right? π
So have nothing of any substance to say, just wanted to wish everyone who celebrates it a blessed, happy Easter!
