I feel like I’m going to EXPLODE! With something ‘bout LOOOOOOVE!
Even though I dreamed up a whole fake screenplay for the video, to be honest, I wasn’t all that excited for it. I mean, the Crush vid was cute. The ALTNOY vid all angsty and swanky.
But I didn’t really expect much more for this one than a fun romp through the park… with ethnically ambiguous skateboarders, of course.

Ok, I’ve had an awful week so far. I’ve been quite emotional, especially when it comes to David. I waited for this video so anxiously, and when it finally came, wherever I tried to watch it there’d be a message, “sorry, but this video isn’t available to you since you live in Finland in the middle of polar bears and igloos, poor bas***d”.
It didn’t take much for me to get frustrated and teary. But then someone posted a link to a site that hides your IP address and location etc. and I went to YT and after frantic searching I found the video!
Something about David’s interpretation made me cry (not that it takes much right now) – maybe the sincerety, the feeling that he truly meant every word he sang, and expressed such emotion on his beautiful face…
I can’t really put my thoughts into words, David just broke my heart and healed it at the same time.
Maybe I won’t give up just yet ❤

TOfan and embe – my thoughts exactly….This is the organic David…at least as I’ve come to know him in these 2+ years of existing in the super fan world. IMHO I think I see his hand in much of the video…the vignettes, the looks, the styling, etc.
And I immediately thought of his comments about his next album being “cheesy” and the fact that he keeps this video very hip, cool, youthful and has clean edges. Not cheesy, but it is extremely wholesome, hopeful, and quite obviously meant to inspire.
Have **%% exploded %%** and gone to ARCHUHEAVEN.
I think the many ‘faces of love’ come through in the video. I truly enjoy the (some are calling it) the disconnect having David not a part of the action – except for at the end where it becomes a celebration of sorts between the actors and David. To me it is like the feelings I get when I listen to David singing S’BL- all these images of people helping people, the befriending of people… an all encompassing image of what love can represent. If you notice as well, the one of the more obvious images is missing – that of teenage crush/love. One he might have added is the love of an older couple, but this would really not have ‘fit’ with the rest of the video.
I like it.
David’s looks are growing up for sure. Like the jacket in some of the shots. Also like the fact the for the most part it actually LOOKS like he is singing – something that was more evident in this video, than the two previous ones (Crush and ALTNOY).

New Video: David Archuleta Looks So (Oh Oh Oh) Mature In “Something ‘Bout Love”
If ever there was a video that displayed such high levels of a-freaking-dorableness, it’s the video for David Archuleta’s dancey new single, “Something ‘Bout Love.” And that would be a much more mature state of adorableness than we’re used to seeing from Archie.
Archie plays narrator in the video featuring different scenarios in which people were about to give up on love, but there’s something ’bout it that makes it worth not giving up on.
Archie, who won our hearts as a 17-year-old powerhouse belter on season 7 of American Idol, is now 19, looks a little bit taller, his hair is a bit edgier, and the sound he’s going for on his sophomore album, Other Side of Down, has grown just enough to keep his ArchAngels squealing with delight while attracting new fans.

Whew! What an awesome way to end a long day. This is the sweetest video ever. It took me a bit by surprise as I was expecting Coney Island and red pants. I didn’t even notice little bro’ the first time, but was half expecting to see the little sisters among the dancers. It’s all good and I predict it will be an unprecedented smash hit!

Wow, I feel very, very, very proud of David! He is such star quality and in this video he really shines like a star. Not to mention the definitely more mature looking yet sensitive and “wow does he have the looks” David. It is a wonderful, fabulous, fun, sensitive, beautiful, attention grabbing SBL video!

As for the guy in the video jumping the fence? Not sure about that one either. Maybe he is running back to his lost love and taking the fast track! Yeah TOfan, maybe his world did fall down like rain! Actually I have no clue but the scene seemed to flow with the story somehow.

He does not have a surface bone in his body. His depth is enigmatically disguised behind the face of…. well, I was going to say “a sweet young angel” but that would have been before the latest vlog and the SBL video!
Love it, it represents who he is perfectly… love him. And myohmy, he is getting handsomer everyday.
I had never heard this song before, “Stole.” He mentions it in his playlist. As if we need one more reason to love him.
Someone mentioned that David’s eyes were “empty” in some scenes, and they were wondering if it was intentional. I think it was. David sings “every night it’s all the same” with his gaze emotionless and tired, even bored. It fits perfectly.
The part where he sings “live and let live” it almost looks like his eyes are glistening with tears – like he’s really pleading. So beautiful.

Over at TDC some commenters said that. They also said some other things I disagreed with – I told them my opinion about the meaning of things, and hopefully they’ll find the depth in the video after watching it with a different attitude. Of course anyone is free to disagree – I just felt it was possible they didn’t really understand the concept of the song/video.
I finally watched the vid late last night -(early this a.m. ) and I have to say, I see David all over this video. I am proud of him. Seems like he was large and in charge 🙂

I think every move he made was intentional – he said himself that there was some re-editing to get it to represent what he wanted to show. I think it was perfect. Even geeky trendy hipster boy meets girl story was perfect. (love boys with glasses) Liked the two lovebirds on the skateboard as well. Cute. I had that same feeling, it was originally meant to be something lighter, more boy/girl; not exactly what David had in mind. What is exciting to me is that Jive seems to be letting him have more input with decision making, more control…… like maybe they want him to know that sticking with them when this contract is up will be a good thing – that they support him. This may be naive thinking by me – I just know if I was Jive, I would be bending over backwards to please him. His future is unlimited.
That “empty” look, to me, is more an expression of profound sadness, and yeah, maybe a feeling of being empty inside – waiting to love, to be loved, or maybe feel love for just a moment through a small gesture of caring. The verses are more serious and the chorus is uplifting. He really belts out that chorus and relays the power of love… don’t give up, hang in there, it’s gonna be alright – believe in the power of love. Don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but he seems to understand that type of quiet desperation and loneliness many feel on a day to day basis.
Just finished watching David’s video playlist and I must say that it ws quite enlightening to see how much the video enhanced the song. Stole, which I had also never heard before, was a bit disturbing to me to watch as it surely brought that issue to the forefront. And with B&W; sure I knew what the song was about, but did the meaning ever pop out to me watching the video. AND a bit ‘o cheese with that intro – what with the Dad being catapaulted into the stratosphere then landing in Africa, LOL.

Betsy, wow, never noticed that but I think you’re right. (& we like ramblers, remember? 🙂 ) It makes perfect sense that he’d find the original “summer fun” skateboarding theme a little fluffy for SBL.
At first I found that disconnect between the bouncy carefree feel of the song and its heavier meaning hard to wrap my mind around, but now I like that tension and find it’s part of what keeps me coming back for more.

Ooookay. This is wayyy OT. I posted something on IDF and I wanna know if I worded it in a way that DOESN’T make me sound perverted? I really, truly meant it in a purely non-sexual way – I ain’t gonna lie, of course I’d kill to see David’s “assets”, but in this case I’m not talking about that 😀
So I was wondering something. Lately David’s been wearing clothes that really show off his figure. And since he’s obviously not this huge, muscular guy, but definitely is athletic and has muscles, what might his body look like? I SWEAR I’m talking like in general, ’cause I’m a gym instructor and I’m interested in different types of bodies and figures (on girls also) – I don’t mean to sound perverted fear.gif
So, I went through some pictures of guys that are about David’s size and young, and then it hit me! David is probably close to Daniel Radcliffe bodywise – he’s also small in stature and in great shape, but not overtly muscular. I’m not going to post a pic of him ’cause it’ll seem creepy haha.gif But just do a google picture search and type in something like “daniel radcliffe” and “nude” or something haha.gif haha.gif Oh gosh, there’s really no good way of saying this, so yeah.

Took a little time out and watched the video again…the youtube comments are the typical good to OTT sprinkled with the haters…I really wonder how much (as in % of music buyers) influence there is in what is said in youtube comments…my kids and grandkids say they don’t read them, that commenting are for Emo’s….hahaha
You know after 2+ years in the cyber fan world you can pretty much predict most in terms of our reactions because there is a standard pattern…et voila…the pattern is holding true….including moi!

So here some things I was thinking about when I saw the video again a few minutes ago:
Vacant look??? – can’t see it…looks like pain, hurt, sadness, bleakness…and how many times have we seen David with that kinda expression before the video?? Ummmm….NEV-VAH! Pretty shocking to see and quite riveting.
Acting? – yes, I can clearly see David acting with just this small sampling in the video if he chose to do that. He is a master craftsman in music and there’s no doubt, to me, that he’d apply that work ethic and value to any artistic endeavor.
My thoughts on jumping the fence & the train going off into the distance to the lyrics “You blame yourself every day, you do it again, every night” and the lyrics before that “Every night it’s all the same, You’re frozen by the phone, You wait, something’s changed.” ………
Sooooo, as you know music is all about what it evokes to the listener, so this listener thinks this is somewhat autobiographical; starting with AI, being away from home after that…yes, something has changed, and drastically…the relationships with everyone in his life has changed dramatically and over night as has the speed and pace…new, challenging experiences at light speed.
And wanting to stay in contact via the phone to what was familiar, secure, important but so busy during the day and not being able to call, text, connect to loved ones & the familiar with any frequency. Then during those super quiet & lonely late hours of the night, blaming oneself for all those missed opportunities.
So it’s allegorical…as in the runner (break neck speed in real life events) jumping over the fence (daily obstacles) with headphones (music) and missing the train (traveling to or with loved ones or perhaps missed opportunities, family time, old friendships) and it keeps happening every day. And why, because his love of family, friends, the familiar is breaking his heart and their love is his base of support and sets him free.
OK, so that’s my sense of it.
Regardless of what any of us interpret, this feels pure David. The story line, friends dancing with each other, talking, sparklers, confetti…good times…just missing the water and cookies 😀

The comments are hilarious…lot’s of young commenters comparing him to Bieber…and methinks that’s REALLY GOOD.
gotcha Kizzi – if they are comparing him to Bieber it means they are liking what they see… if Bieber fever is anything to judge by.
with the youngun’s maybe they would be swayed by comments, just to be part of the same crowd, but it is the internet and you are not face to face do perhaps that wouldn’t apply. Be interesting to know though.
LOVE your take on it, Kizzi! I know a lot of people prefer either the Crush vid or the ALTNOY vid, but I think you captured perfectly why I like this one best… it’s David all the way. As Betsy pointed out, he likely had more control over this one… and it shows!
Crush was sweet and the Altnoy vid swanky & sophisticated, but this one had a little of both along with that magic combo of youthful exuberance and old-soul depth we’ve come to know and love so well in David.
I’ve read some of that. I think this video is David and the others were more a producer’s/director’s script. So some adjustment is necessary.
The real GaGillionZillion Dollar Question is will the targeted buyers (youngish females to be specific) buy David’s music with this song and video? Time will tell.
Seriously TOfan, if David could attract/convert a sizeable portion of Bieber’s following to himself, well, that would be simply fantastic…those young ladies BUY music. And he is for sure quite different than Bieber.

OK so I am behind again. I have spent this whole summer catching up, and it’s kinda exhausting to be entirely honest.
I JUST watched the video and although the computer I am watching on is quite terrible and it was choppy the whole time, I have to say I love it! It just made me smile HUGE. And I agree with what everyone’s said about how it seems so “David” and how you can see his hand in it. I love how his personality shines through every second of this video. <33333333333333

Try letting the video run through once (it will be choppy) and when it is done watch it again and it should be smoother the second time as it has already “loaded” onto your computer’s memory. This is what I had to do before I upgraded to a faster system.

another one bites the dust…
Some fans are not liking the somber David. This reaction is understandable. After all, he is not called Mr. Sunshine for nothing.
But with further consideration, I realize that the “shock factor” of the somber David may be a conscious effort to arrest the viewers’ attention.
As die hard fans, we of course can sing SBL in our sleep! So paying attention to his lyrics in the music video is probably not the behavior expected from us. (What do WE pay attention to dear die hard archies? Hmmmm>
The average listener, fans and non-fans alike, would groove and romp to SBL’s inviting tune. Of course the quality of the vocals helps a ton in appreciating the track. As one of the early SBL reviewers pointed out (the name escapes me now), “finally a great pop tune with great vocals!” Or something along those lines 😉
However, with new or random viewers, who may have just a mere memory of the giggly AI runner-up, David’s forlorn looks and at some point, teary or vacant eyes would prompt them to pay closer attention. Or at least intrigue them. Like – “why is Archuleta being dramatic?” “Why is this cutie in angst?” What the heck, am not seeing Archuleta’s teeth for once?! What gives?!”
Then BOOM! Non-fans listen to the lyrics; notice the contrast between David and his surroundings. Another ying for David’s yang.

Kizzi, Kizzi, Kizzi…My take on the fence jumper and the train is simple and uncomplicated: I see them as simple metaphors for overcoming obstacles and moving on, moving forward. Both (in the context of the vid) say don’t allow yourself to be limited, held down, or trapped (“trapped in the small town” of your misery?), presumably by the “lows” of love, but instead be inspired and motivated to move forward through life by the UP side of love. Leave the past in the past… set yourself free…move on and embrace/discover your future. While I don’t necessarily read specific parallels with David’s personal life into their meaning— they may very well be there. 🙂 After all, we know the song reflects what he truly believes.
And, abanana, you’re right, David’s bro is NOT the one who lifts the kid to the hoop.

You are so right, the song reflects his outlook on life. He is a realist.. put things where they belong, don’t dwell, things happen for a reason, focus more on positives (all this while not being dismissive or minimizing pain and hurt and tribulation)… and all wrapped up in an uptempo, easy-to-dance-to summer pop song! I kinda think he is a genius!

Beebee, loved your interpretation of the fellow jumping the fence, could be a lot of deeper meanings in this video with David expressing as much as he can within the means he has to work with.
I know some people are not loving this video. They can’t seem to deal with a more somber David. I for one, say….give the guy a break…give his cheeks a rest! He can’t smile from ear to ear 24/7! He needed to interpret this song differently, with all the heart, heartache, soul and emotion that he feels and understands within himself and feels for others.
I think he did it beautifully and this video has definitely become my favorite of his! I say bravo to David!

I haven’t seen the comments from peeps not liking 3D-David (i.e. more than just a smiley face) … I have a feeling they’re probably the same few who often complain after photoshoots & shows that he smiled too much. Just a theory. 🙂
My take on it is that David the consummate storyteller is doing so again here.
He’s pensive and full of ennui when singing about how love can tear you apart and then he lets the joy rip in the chorus to remind us that, despite all that, don’t give up on love … it can save us all.

I’m a daily Snow Angelz lurker. I hope it’s OK to tell my story & how David’s song & video have made an impact on me. It’s a little difficult to put into words, but here goes…
I’m finding it hard to say anything simply because my feelings about it are so personal. I just can’t put into words how the video made me feel without coming across like I’m feeling sorry for myself. On the contrary. David’s song & video has made me see I have missed out on something that could have been wonderful. It’s hard to admit to myself that David could have been addressing me as a person who gave up on love. I’m been single for almost 30 years. I had short term relationships which ended when too much was asked of me. I was afraid to get hurt. I was accused more than once of sabotaging myself & that I would end up alone. I knew what I was
doing when I gave up on a couple of relationships but was too scared to commit to.
Then there’s my children. The love I have for them is so painful sometimes. When one of my children passed away, I became obsessed with my other children. Afraid I would lose them too. I vowed they would be my priority always…which in turn affected any relationships which could have turned into something long term & good for all of us. I have come to the realization I will be “alone” for the rest of my life because I gave up. Because I didn’t trust that I could have been “on the ride of my life” more than once.
There are all kinds of love and David, in his genius, integrated almost all in his video, but the love that can be the most painful & which is so hard to reconcile is the love between family members simply because unlike romantic love, you can’t replace your mom, dad, siblings or other members. Once there is a break in trust between family, the love is there under the surface even if it’s denied and it can be so very painful. I have not experienced that particular kind of loss but I know people who have & who have not spoken to parents or siblings for years due to long forgotten wrongs. Then there is the love of our pets…
As much as I like the video and the meaning David coveys, I magined the video would be more like this:
The video would have some scenes depicting love between family members, with friends, and the very special love we have for our pets, as well as romantic love, as David is walking the streets of LA, like the scene with the couple on the skateboard, or the little boy being lifted up to the basket, or the young girl helping the lady with her groceries, except David is seen off to one side observing those scenes. David is “walking the streets”, like at the beginning, throughout the video as he comes across examples of the different kinds of love he is singing about with him in each scene observing. Then at the end, instead of sparklers & confetti, I can see David meeting up with a group of friends & they all happily walk/run down the street towards what looks like an amusement park until they disappear as the song ends. That was what I imagined the video could have been like. But that’s just me & my imagination. 😀
David has a way of making me soar with so much happiness I could burst, and at the same time he can break my heart with just a song. He has influenced my life for the better and so deeply that it is scary. “Something ‘Bout Love” can mean different things to different people. To me it reminds me that perhaps it’s never too late. It gives me hope. 🙂

Someone wise once told me if you make room in your life for love, it’ll find you. I find that hopeful message in this vid as well. People helping each other lovingly.

Just can’t help but be nervous for David. Of course there are four other performers + a “special AI guest”, and it’s not like this is a make or break thing for David. 🙂
And he did have his first & so far only accoustic perfornance here last year which was so unbelievably awesomeage but just a memory in my mind as there is not one video, audio or photo of the actual concert. It’s sad David did not allow someone in his crew to tape an audio if only for posterity. Or maybe he did, who knows? Anyway, of the 300 fans who were packed into the Hard Rock Cafe I think more than half were out of town fans of David. There was NO promotion here at all for that gig. It was promoted only on David’s fan sites.
But this gig for the yearly Bash is heavily promoted here on WDJX. Last year, Bieber was one of the performers. He was..uh..terrible. Now look at him. He is a superstar & he’s everywhere. I just shake my head in disbelief especially because I have seen no improvement. I know the little guy is a Canadian lad, but I must be honest.
Anyway..I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well & will continue to say my nightly prayer for David.

Awesome how many views his SBL video is getting. It’s definitely helping promote the song! I was bored and started reading the comments (don’t judge, lol) and I found some interesting ones (from mostly non-fans I think):
