I’m sitting here on the edge of my seat waiting for something magical to happen. No, not a David Archuleta moment. Not this time.
Aurora borealis, the Northern Lights, are supposed to be visible in our night sky tonight and tomorrow night. Normally the “dancing red and green curtains of light,” as my news station called them, can only be seen up north. But apparently two solar storms are pushing the aurora borealis our way.
What causes this phenomenon? The solar wind launched by the sun contains clouds of plasma, full of particles that include electrons and positive ions. When they reach the Earth, they interact with the Earth’s magnetic field, activating oxygen and nitrogen in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
Electrons and positive ions … now that does sound like David.
I’ve actually compared David to the Northern Lights in several posts. His voice has always seemed a force of nature to me — and the awe-inspiring power of these shimmering, morphing blazes of light such a perfect metaphor for David’s mercurial, enigmatic talent.
When I saw that David had a brand new song called “Northern Lights” registered on ASCAP, it felt so perfect to me. Without even hearing it, I knew I’d love it.
As Ms. Kizzi reminded me recently, Northern Lights is also the name of the venue near Albany, N.Y., where David officially “headlined” for the first time back in December 2008. After that show, Refnaf and I met a bunch of our online David friends for the first time, including Kizzi, Happy, djxox, Bluebarsa, Ninaf, HelloGorgeous, and Newangel.
So yes, I love “Northern Lights” already and have a feeling it will be on the album.
It’s even on this probably-not-for-real-but-fun-to-speculate-about “leaked” track list, which was posted on IDF by archfan13 (link tweeted by the lovely @Jonerz on the weekend):

Okay, I’m heading outside again to try and catch a glimpse of Aurora … or Borealis … I’m not picky.

I felt exactly the same way. That song title jumped out at me and I could only think, oh I really want to hear that song. Knew I would love it too. I truly hope it IS on the album.
That speculative song list certainly does rev up the anticipation for David’s new music! Whatever makes it on to the album, we know that some songs will have David’s hand in them.
A wonderful post and I do hope that you did get to experience the beauty of the Northern Lights. Something I have yet to witness except as the perfect metaphor that is David….that voice that is a force of nature as you so nicely put it.
My hope for the album….many songs that have been written (co-written) by David. Northern Lights must be on the album, whatever the storyline is in the song, I have a feeling it will have a special magic. Yes…I do feel like I am on the edge of my seat, counting the days now. New and more personal music from David, couldn’t ask for more from him.

The Northern Lights – shimmering, constantly changing and re-arranging itself. Magestic in it’s awsomage. Yup, definitely a cool comparison.

I kinda hope its about his first solo show in Albany, NY with Gavin McGraw as his opening act.
Remember his warning to the audience not to push the children in the front?
Remember the crowd of over 1000 people pushing toward the stage when he came out to sing?
Remember the pinging of the mental building housing the grungy bar as it vibrated with the music?
Remember how hard it was to find because it was in a strip mall?
Remember him singing the “Chestnuts” song acapella?
Remember meeting NewAngel in the lobby of the hotel?
Remember how freezing cold it was outside and raining to boot?
Remember staying up til almost 2am? with soul sis-tahs we met for the first time in the flesh? there’s a picture somewhere I need to dig up. 😀
what a great song that would be to immortalize that experience, eh?
And if its about the AB, I look forward to hearing the words and music. Or maybe ’bout somethin’ else.

TOfan – Looove this post! Super informative too! I had no idea that the Northern Lights would be visible from Toronto. Are they from out east too??? I had not heard of that at all.
Also, I had not even seen this speculated track list (that’s what I get for getting away from it all)! I’m definitely taking it with a (huge) grain of salt, but I looooove speculation. I do not even care if it’s almost true or not. Hahaha.
I kinda hope IICOB would make the album. I know it’s not alot of peoples favourite but I am a fan. It’s just so David. Like I know we all want his personality to come through with this album and to me, it comes through the best with that one (more than P&A or NAVGL). And I would love to hear the studio version.

His body english in that performance is part grace and fluidity, similar to a cat, and part sassy-soulful-uninhibited-i-just-gotta-groove deliciousness.
That dark, grainy video is my achilles heel, it has become my nemesis. I need a distraction. That SBL vid is coming just in time.

Tofan, Love your inspired comparison of David to Northern Lights. Was always on my bucket list. Probably won’t happen for me, but hearing David sing about it will be a good substitute. Did you see it last night? Or is it as elusive as the new music video? 🙂

Ok, I’ve had an awful week so far. I’ve been quite emotional, especially when it comes to David. I waited for this video so anxiously, and when it finally came, wherever I tried to watch it there’d be a message, “sorry, but this video isn’t available to you since you live in Finland in the middle of polar bears and igloos, poor bas***d”. It didn’t take much for me to get frustrated and teary. But then someone posted a link to a site that hides your IP address and location etc. and I went to YT and after frantic searching I found the video!
Something about David’s interpretation made me cry (not that it takes much right now) – maybe the sincerety, the feeling that he truly meant every word he sang, and expressed such emotion on his beautiful face… I can’t really put my thoughts into words, David just broke my heart and healed it at the same time.
Maybe I won’t give up just yet ❤
In comments on the Snarky video post, commenters are saying David’s brother is in the basketball scene, gray shorts w/stripe & Joy Williams and Benton Paul are also in the video???!!!!
