David Archuleta’s SBL vid: For Everyman

Vodpod videos no longer available.

SBL, posted with vodpod

I feel like I’m going to EXPLODE! With something ‘bout LOOOOOOVE!

Even though I dreamed up a whole fake screenplay for the video, to be honest, I wasn’t all that excited for it. I mean, the Crush vid was cute. The ALTNOY vid all angsty and swanky.

But I didn’t really expect much more for this one than a fun romp through the park… with ethnically ambiguous skateboarders, of course.

Gotta love a happy ending! (Screencap: Snarky Janey)

But this. THIS!

It’s so, SO FREAKIN’ … DAVID!

His brother’s friend helping a kid sink a basket?

A geeky wallflower (aka David circa 2007) finding a soulmate?

A granny getting a helping hand?

All under twinkly lights with dancing fools and a side of heart-hands … and SPARKLERS???????1

I’m dying to watch it again2 but I don’t think I can take it.3

Please help me out here, what do you guys think?4

Footnotes:
1. I also love the shots of him getting so into the song that his feet are bouncing on the sofa or ottoman or whatever he was crouched on. (Nothing to do with the shoes, nothing.)

2. If only to figure out what the guy jumping the fence for the train has to do with anything.

3. Don’t even get me started about the head flip.

4. No, he’s not alone at the end, he got a text from a pretty girl who made him smile. (Ya, okay, she’s married in real life … subtext people, subtext!)

5. This is what the title of this post refers to. One of my favourite Jackson Browne songs … gee, who does it remind me of…:

FOR EVERYMAN

Everybody I talk to is ready to leave
With the light of the morning
They’ve seen the end coming down long enough to believe
That they’ve heard their last warning
Standing alone
Each has his own ticket in his hand
And as the evening descends
I sit thinking ’bout Everyman

@kricket_rc234

Seems like I’ve always been looking for some other place
To get it together
Where with a few of my friends I could give up the race
And maybe find something better
But all my fine dreams
Well thought out schemes to gain the motherland
Have all eventually come down to waiting for Everyman

Waiting here for Everyman–
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand
Waiting here for Everyman–
Don’t ask me if he’ll show — baby I don’t know

Make it on your own if you think you can
Somewhere later on you’ll have to take a stand
Then you’re going to need a hand

Everybody’s just waiting to hear from the one
Who can give them the answers
And lead them back to that place in the warmth of the sun
Where sweet childhood still dances
Who’ll come along
And hold out that strong and gentle father’s hand?
Long ago I heard someone say something ’bout Everyman

Waiting here for Everyman–
Make it on your own if you think you can
If you see somewhere to go I understand

I’m not trying to tell you that I’ve seen the plan
Turn and walk away if you think I am–
But don’t think too badly of one who’s left holding sand
He’s just another dreamer, dreaming ’bout Everyman

  1. TOfan says:

    From end of last thread:

    From kizzi:
Holy Pink Cotton Candy, Blueberry Snowcones, and Apple Pie a la Mode…that’s some sweet summer fare.

Yep. “Something ‘Bout Love”…young love, brotherly love & love among friends.
Super clean edges everywhere & sweetly flirty too.

Takes me back to a time of having a whole summer for vacation, carefree, fun and good times with my family and friends. 🙂

    From embe:
Ok, I’ve had an awful week so far. I’ve been quite emotional, especially when it comes to David. I waited for this video so anxiously, and when it finally came, wherever I tried to watch it there’d be a message, “sorry, but this video isn’t available to you since you live in Finland in the middle of polar bears and igloos, poor bas***d”.

It didn’t take much for me to get frustrated and teary. But then someone posted a link to a site that hides your IP address and location etc. and I went to YT and after frantic searching I found the video!

Something about David’s interpretation made me cry (not that it takes much right now) – maybe the sincerety, the feeling that he truly meant every word he sang, and expressed such emotion on his beautiful face…

I can’t really put my thoughts into words, David just broke my heart and healed it at the same time.

Maybe I won’t give up just yet ❤

[EDIT: Just put the short little “playlist” intro vids in the sidebar. To see the 5th one, just click on Vodpod. :)]

  2. Kizzi says:

TOfan and embe – my thoughts exactly….This is the organic David…at least as I’ve come to know him in these 2+ years of existing in the super fan world. IMHO I think I see his hand in much of the video…the vignettes, the looks, the styling, etc.

And I immediately thought of his comments about his next album being “cheesy” and the fact that he keeps this video very hip, cool, youthful and has clean edges. Not cheesy, but it is extremely wholesome, hopeful, and quite obviously meant to inspire.

  3. comolaflor says:

Have **%% exploded %%** and gone to ARCHUHEAVEN.

  4. awestruck says:

I think the many ‘faces of love’ come through in the video. I truly enjoy the (some are calling it) the disconnect having David not a part of the action – except for at the end where it becomes a celebration of sorts between the actors and David. To me it is like the feelings I get when I listen to David singing S’BL- all these images of people helping people, the befriending of people… an all encompassing image of what love can represent. If you notice as well, the one of the more obvious images is missing – that of teenage crush/love. One he might have added is the love of an older couple, but this would really not have ‘fit’ with the rest of the video.

    I like it.

  5. awestruck says:

David’s looks are growing up for sure. Like the jacket in some of the shots. Also like the fact the for the most part it actually LOOKS like he is singing – something that was more evident in this video, than the two previous ones (Crush and ALTNOY).

  6. Kizzi says:

    From Idolator….

(I especially enjoyed their description of David being the narrator and “walking the long road” in the S’BL video…great depiction of David’s role…there and yet separate)

David Archuleta takes his message of being set free by amore to the streets in his “Something ‘Bout Love” music video. Teen Choice nominee Archie appears as a lonely wanderer who happens upon various scenes of people in need of a helping hand in the clip. But c’mon, this is a David Archuleta video—of course everyone ends up smiling at a big confetti-strewn street party in the end! Watch after the jump. (Your broken heart will thank you.)

Archie expressed undulated excitement while preparing to release his new vid to his fans. “Everything seems like it’s a challenge,” he said in a recent video blog. “Everything needs to be a little bit difficult and a little challenging before it can come together.”

And it all did. So check it out…

  7. Kizzi says:

From Neon Limelight: Also describes David’s role as narrator. 😀

New Video: David Archuleta Looks So (Oh Oh Oh) Mature In “Something ‘Bout Love”

If ever there was a video that displayed such high levels of a-freaking-dorableness, it’s the video for David Archuleta’s dancey new single, “Something ‘Bout Love.” And that would be a much more mature state of adorableness than we’re used to seeing from Archie.

Archie plays narrator in the video featuring different scenarios in which people were about to give up on love, but there’s something ’bout it that makes it worth not giving up on.

Archie, who won our hearts as a 17-year-old powerhouse belter on season 7 of American Idol, is now 19, looks a little bit taller, his hair is a bit edgier, and the sound he’s going for on his sophomore album, Other Side of Down, has grown just enough to keep his ArchAngels squealing with delight while attracting new fans.
If you’re liking “Something ‘Bout Love,” then you should so (oh oh oh) check out Archie’s sophomore album, in stores October 5.

Great insight in comment from archiedoll on mjsblog:

    …No more Mr. “I’m shy-and-I-look-weird-and-I-don’t-like-cameras-and-I’ve-never-done-this-before”. I like it.

  9. Kizzi says:

‘scuz the spammin’ SAz…just got a little ArchuReporter thang going there for while…

Hope you see the AB tonight TOfan.

  10. SandyBeaches says:

I have replayed ‘ the guy jumping over the fence with the train passing by ‘ but I still can not figure out the meaning and I am certain that there is one…Anyone??

    SB

  11. Newangel says:

I had to laugh b/c I had no idea what the guy jumping over the fence meant either. Maybe he was late for dinner?

Thank goodness I was already in love with the whole video before I realized David was sitting on the back of the couch. That might have made me cringe– as a mom, I mean.

Life is good. God is good. The video is great.

  12. TOfan says:

LOL, Newangel, I wondered what the heck he was sitting on. Part of the whole James Dean rebel thing he’s got goin’ on there. Dark jacket, graffiti, playing with matches… 🙂

    Here’s a tweet from MTV’s Jim Cantiello:
    @jambajim #TodaysTune David Archuleta – Something ‘Bout Love http://youtu.be/ZhRvd0bzIoE Watch @DavidArchie walk & sing & text & sing & smile & sing!

And, also from Twitter, someone from Brazil tweeted: DAVID ARCHULETA, HE’S MY THUNDER!

Not sure why, but I like that! 🙂

… maybe the train guy’s world fell down like rain? Nah.

  13. soul_sista says:

This is my first time posting here, but the first thought that came to my mind was that the guy and the train were metaphors for moving forward in life and not stopping despite difficulties. Kinda cheesy, but I’m a pretty cheesy person.

  14. Sunshine says:

Whew! What an awesome way to end a long day. This is the sweetest video ever. It took me a bit by surprise as I was expecting Coney Island and red pants. I didn’t even notice little bro’ the first time, but was half expecting to see the little sisters among the dancers. It’s all good and I predict it will be an unprecedented smash hit!

TOfan – thanks for the JB lyrics. ‘Make it on your own if you think you can.’ Oh, I think he can.

  15. peppertara says:

Wow, I feel very, very, very proud of David! He is such star quality and in this video he really shines like a star. Not to mention the definitely more mature looking yet sensitive and “wow does he have the looks” David. It is a wonderful, fabulous, fun, sensitive, beautiful, attention grabbing SBL video!
Love the reviews coming out too.
As for the guy in the video jumping the fence? Not sure about that one either. Maybe he is running back to his lost love and taking the fast track! Yeah TOfan, maybe his world did fall down like rain! Actually I have no clue but the scene seemed to flow with the story somehow.
    Need to watch it again!

  16. emmegirl says:

Kizzi and Embe, love your opening comments. Your posts are like salt and pepper, and yet you both nailed it.

Am a bit at a loss for words, though not sure why.

He does not have a surface bone in his body. His depth is enigmatically disguised behind the face of…. well, I was going to say “a sweet young angel” but that would have been before the latest vlog and the SBL video!

Love it, it represents who he is perfectly… love him. And myohmy, he is getting handsomer everyday.

I had never heard this song before, “Stole.” He mentions it in his playlist. As if we need one more reason to love him.

  17. embe86 says:

Someone mentioned that David’s eyes were “empty” in some scenes, and they were wondering if it was intentional. I think it was. David sings “every night it’s all the same” with his gaze emotionless and tired, even bored. It fits perfectly.

The part where he sings “live and let live” it almost looks like his eyes are glistening with tears – like he’s really pleading. So beautiful.

  18. TOfan says:

Someone said his eyes were “empty”? Were they watching the same video? I’m with you, embe, I thought he was looking off into the distance like a world-weary traveller longing for home kinda thing.

I think I’ve figured out the guy jumping the fence for the train part … it’s right after the line “You blame yourself every day, You do it again, Every night” … maybe catching his train home to start the process all over again?

Emme, thanks for that, I hadn’t heard “Stole” either. Reminds me of what David said in COS, “I didn’t want to just sound soulful, I wanted to be soulful. Is he ever! 🙂

    • embe86 says:

Over at TDC some commenters said that. They also said some other things I disagreed with – I told them my opinion about the meaning of things, and hopefully they’ll find the depth in the video after watching it with a different attitude. Of course anyone is free to disagree – I just felt it was possible they didn’t really understand the concept of the song/video.

  19. betsy says:

I finally watched the vid late last night -(early this a.m. ) and I have to say, I see David all over this video. I am proud of him. Seems like he was large and in charge 🙂

Tofan – “dancing fools and a side of heart hands” LOL

Embe – I saw the comments you are referring to and I am just considering the source and letting it go.
I think every move he made was intentional – he said himself that there was some re-editing to get it to represent what he wanted to show. I think it was perfect. Even geeky trendy hipster boy meets girl story was perfect. (love boys with glasses) Liked the two lovebirds on the skateboard as well. Cute. I have a feeling David changed the direction of this video. In the beginning (casting call) it was “summer fun, skateboarding, etc.” He put something deeper in it.
    Wow, ramble, ramble.

    • awestruck says:

I have a feeling David changed the direction of this video. In the beginning (casting call) it was “summer fun, skateboarding, etc.” He put something deeper in it.

      I’d have to agree besty!

    • emmegirl says:

I had that same feeling, it was originally meant to be something lighter, more boy/girl; not exactly what David had in mind. What is exciting to me is that Jive seems to be letting him have more input with decision making, more control…… like maybe they want him to know that sticking with them when this contract is up will be a good thing – that they support him. This may be naive thinking by me – I just know if I was Jive, I would be bending over backwards to please him. His future is unlimited.

That “empty” look, to me, is more an expression of profound sadness, and yeah, maybe a feeling of being empty inside – waiting to love, to be loved, or maybe feel love for just a moment through a small gesture of caring. The verses are more serious and the chorus is uplifting. He really belts out that chorus and relays the power of love… don’t give up, hang in there, it’s gonna be alright – believe in the power of love. Don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but he seems to understand that type of quiet desperation and loneliness many feel on a day to day basis.

  20. awestruck says:

Just finished watching David’s video playlist and I must say that it ws quite enlightening to see how much the video enhanced the song. Stole, which I had also never heard before, was a bit disturbing to me to watch as it surely brought that issue to the forefront. And with B&W; sure I knew what the song was about, but did the meaning ever pop out to me watching the video. AND a bit ‘o cheese with that intro – what with the Dad being catapaulted into the stratosphere then landing in Africa, LOL.

I don’t see any cheese in the S’BL video but –

    David – Soul_Sista CHEESE is OK 🙂

TOfan do you see that teeny tiny smiley face at the very bottom of the blog page?

  21. embe86 says:

Ok, here’s what I said about the video elsewhere:

“I think the young people dancing and celebrating were the contrast to David’s “educational” story. The lyrics are an unusual companion to the melody to begin with, but when I actually see David sing them, they really sink in. David has said many times, that he has learned to listen to the words and the message behind the melody, and has found some interesting songs as a result (see his “song for the day” after his blogs).”

“I think the “emptyness” in David’s eyes in some scenes was intentional. He’s singing “every night it’s all the same” – he seems frustrated, tired, bored. His eyes reflect those emotions.

The part where he sings “live and let live” it almost looks like his eyes are glistening with tears – like he’s really pleading, his heart tired.”

    • awestruck says:

“The lyrics are an unusual companion to the melody to begin with” yup I would agree…

  22. TOfan says:

Betsy, wow, never noticed that but I think you’re right. (& we like ramblers, remember? 🙂 ) It makes perfect sense that he’d find the original “summer fun” skateboarding theme a little fluffy for SBL.

At first I found that disconnect between the bouncy carefree feel of the song and its heavier meaning hard to wrap my mind around, but now I like that tension and find it’s part of what keeps me coming back for more.

  23. embe86 says:

Ooookay. This is wayyy OT. I posted something on IDF and I wanna know if I worded it in a way that DOESN’T make me sound perverted? I really, truly meant it in a purely non-sexual way – I ain’t gonna lie, of course I’d kill to see David’s “assets”, but in this case I’m not talking about that 😀

So I was wondering something. Lately David’s been wearing clothes that really show off his figure. And since he’s obviously not this huge, muscular guy, but definitely is athletic and has muscles, what might his body look like? I SWEAR I’m talking like in general, ’cause I’m a gym instructor and I’m interested in different types of bodies and figures (on girls also) – I don’t mean to sound perverted fear.gif

So, I went through some pictures of guys that are about David’s size and young, and then it hit me! David is probably close to Daniel Radcliffe bodywise – he’s also small in stature and in great shape, but not overtly muscular. I’m not going to post a pic of him ’cause it’ll seem creepy haha.gif But just do a google picture search and type in something like “daniel radcliffe” and “nude” or something haha.gif haha.gif Oh gosh, there’s really no good way of saying this, so yeah.

    • embe86 says:

Oops, sorry for the smiley .gif codes lol.

      • awestruck says:

LOL embe, a good subject to wonder about – though not likely you will ever see proof of your analysis as TOfan said. And no, in THAT context, you did not sound perverted…

    • TOfan says:

Good luck with that, embe! LOL Daniel Radcliffe did a nude scene on Broadway (Equus), so that`s an easy one to, um, research. It`ll be a frosty day in Hades before you even see David in shorts, nvm anything else, so that`ll throw a snag into your `project`. I admire your career dedication though! 😆

      • embe86 says:

LOL Tofan, it’s NOT a PROJECT for crying out loud 😀 😀

I was just thinking about my workout routine and how I could change it a bit and then I thought about P90X which led me to think about how much it adds muscle mass and then I started thinking how David is built – petite, toned, a bit of muscle in certain places – and…. yeah. So – I’m not a perv, just interested in muscle definition!

      • TOfan says:

just have a little fun teasing you, embe! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  24. Kizzi says:

Took a little time out and watched the video again…the youtube comments are the typical good to OTT sprinkled with the haters…I really wonder how much (as in % of music buyers) influence there is in what is said in youtube comments…my kids and grandkids say they don’t read them, that commenting are for Emo’s….hahaha

You know after 2+ years in the cyber fan world you can pretty much predict most in terms of our reactions because there is a standard pattern…et voila…the pattern is holding true….including moi!

You’ll be proud of me TOfan, I’m only indulging in high energy cyber fare. *pats self on back*

So here some things I was thinking about when I saw the video again a few minutes ago:

Vacant look??? – can’t see it…looks like pain, hurt, sadness, bleakness…and how many times have we seen David with that kinda expression before the video?? Ummmm….NEV-VAH! Pretty shocking to see and quite riveting.

Acting? – yes, I can clearly see David acting with just this small sampling in the video if he chose to do that. He is a master craftsman in music and there’s no doubt, to me, that he’d apply that work ethic and value to any artistic endeavor.

My thoughts on jumping the fence & the train going off into the distance to the lyrics “You blame yourself every day, you do it again, every night” and the lyrics before that “Every night it’s all the same, You’re frozen by the phone, You wait, something’s changed.” ………

Sooooo, as you know music is all about what it evokes to the listener, so this listener thinks this is somewhat autobiographical; starting with AI, being away from home after that…yes, something has changed, and drastically…the relationships with everyone in his life has changed dramatically and over night as has the speed and pace…new, challenging experiences at light speed.

And wanting to stay in contact via the phone to what was familiar, secure, important but so busy during the day and not being able to call, text, connect to loved ones & the familiar with any frequency. Then during those super quiet & lonely late hours of the night, blaming oneself for all those missed opportunities.

So it’s allegorical…as in the runner (break neck speed in real life events) jumping over the fence (daily obstacles) with headphones (music) and missing the train (traveling to or with loved ones or perhaps missed opportunities, family time, old friendships) and it keeps happening every day. And why, because his love of family, friends, the familiar is breaking his heart and their love is his base of support and sets him free.

OK, so that’s my sense of it.

Regardless of what any of us interpret, this feels pure David. The story line, friends dancing with each other, talking, sparklers, confetti…good times…just missing the water and cookies 😀

    • awestruck says:

“I really wonder how much (as in % of music buyers) influence there is in what is said in youtube comments…” what exactly do you mean Kizzi by influence?

      • Kizzi says:

        Hey Awestruck!

What I was trying to get at was in terms of buying music. How many music buyers are influenced by youtube comments?

The comments are hilarious…lot’s of young commenters comparing him to Bieber…and methinks that’s REALLY GOOD.

      • awestruck says:

gotcha Kizzi – if they are comparing him to Bieber it means they are liking what they see… if Bieber fever is anything to judge by.

with the youngun’s maybe they would be swayed by comments, just to be part of the same crowd, but it is the internet and you are not face to face do perhaps that wouldn’t apply. Be interesting to know though.

    • TOfan says:

LOVE your take on it, Kizzi! I know a lot of people prefer either the Crush vid or the ALTNOY vid, but I think you captured perfectly why I like this one best… it’s David all the way. As Betsy pointed out, he likely had more control over this one… and it shows!

Crush was sweet and the Altnoy vid swanky & sophisticated, but this one had a little of both along with that magic combo of youthful exuberance and old-soul depth we’ve come to know and love so well in David.

      • Kizzi says:

I’ve read some of that. I think this video is David and the others were more a producer’s/director’s script. So some adjustment is necessary.

The real GaGillionZillion Dollar Question is will the targeted buyers (youngish females to be specific) buy David’s music with this song and video? Time will tell.

Seriously TOfan, if David could attract/convert a sizeable portion of Bieber’s following to himself, well, that would be simply fantastic…those young ladies BUY music. And he is for sure quite different than Bieber.

      • awestruck says:

actually TOfan I think that David took control…

  25. abanana77 says:

OK so I am behind again. I have spent this whole summer catching up, and it’s kinda exhausting to be entirely honest.

I JUST watched the video and although the computer I am watching on is quite terrible and it was choppy the whole time, I have to say I love it! It just made me smile HUGE. And I agree with what everyone’s said about how it seems so “David” and how you can see his hand in it. I love how his personality shines through every second of this video. <33333333333333

Need to go watch again. Maybe the youtube will run less choppy for me…

    • awestruck says:

Try letting the video run through once (it will be choppy) and when it is done watch it again and it should be smoother the second time as it has already “loaded” onto your computer’s memory. This is what I had to do before I upgraded to a faster system.

    • TOfan says:

It IS exhausting! LOL Need P90X stamina sessions!

  26. abanana77 says:

Oh and I noticed the smiley face agggggggges ago. And I think it is awesome.

  27. abanana77 says:

OK I just rewatched it. Lalalalala I love it more now. I really like how David is the “narrator” or whatever like someone else said (sorry, too lazy to go look who). Also I love the very very end when David is smiling huge. Just like the end of the crush video. It makes me smile huge.

  28. abanana77 says:

WAIT! I thought his brother was the other basketball player. Not the one helping the kid sink a basket. In like darker gray…?

  29. abanana77 says:

Ahhhhhhh sorry I am spamming but TOfan – I don’t think I can handle the head flip either!

  30. refnaf says:

Hey!!!! Back for just a couple of hours between camp trips!! (had a blast with the kids) And what a joy to see the VID, oh my heck , David to the core…. love it ALOT…..and miss being here to go over every nuance… but I will be back just not sure when ,,, miss all of you
    (((big hug)))

  31. TOfan says:

    Off-topic, here’s another pic from that Gift Lounge: 🙂 🙂 🙂

  32. TOfan says:

Interesting non-fan take on the video:

“I should have known this was going to happen. David Archuleta’s new single, “Something ‘Bout Love” is growing on me. Leave it to a music video to take a song that I previously wasn’t feeling and turn it around nearly completely…

    Read the rest HERE.

  33. jackryan4DA says:

Some fans are not liking the somber David. This reaction is understandable. After all, he is not called Mr. Sunshine for nothing.

But with further consideration, I realize that the “shock factor” of the somber David may be a conscious effort to arrest the viewers’ attention.

As die hard fans, we of course can sing SBL in our sleep! So paying attention to his lyrics in the music video is probably not the behavior expected from us. (What do WE pay attention to dear die hard archies? Hmmmm>

The average listener, fans and non-fans alike, would groove and romp to SBL’s inviting tune. Of course the quality of the vocals helps a ton in appreciating the track. As one of the early SBL reviewers pointed out (the name escapes me now), “finally a great pop tune with great vocals!” Or something along those lines 😉

However, with new or random viewers, who may have just a mere memory of the giggly AI runner-up, David’s forlorn looks and at some point, teary or vacant eyes would prompt them to pay closer attention. Or at least intrigue them. Like – “why is Archuleta being dramatic?” “Why is this cutie in angst?” What the heck, am not seeing Archuleta’s teeth for once?! What gives?!”

Then BOOM! Non-fans listen to the lyrics; notice the contrast between David and his surroundings. Another ying for David’s yang.

    Message delivered.

“Am gonna get into the song… Am gonna tell it to the judges. Am gonna make sure they understand it.”
    – David Archuleta
    Hollywood Week, 2008

Then and now, David has never faltered from his mission.

ps: I won’t go into the MV’s production value (editing, continuity, etc..). Given the short period this was made, am not gonna be exacting this time around.

ps2: Did anyone notice that David’s watch was on his left wrist when he was in outdoor settings and on his right wrist when indoors?

  34. beebee says:

I definitely agree this vid is—heart and soul—PURE David. (But, TOfan, jsyk… I will ALWAYS lurrrrve YOUR vid, too. ALWAYS. 🙂 🙂 )

Kizzi, Kizzi, Kizzi…My take on the fence jumper and the train is simple and uncomplicated: I see them as simple metaphors for overcoming obstacles and moving on, moving forward. Both (in the context of the vid) say don’t allow yourself to be limited, held down, or trapped (“trapped in the small town” of your misery?), presumably by the “lows” of love, but instead be inspired and motivated to move forward through life by the UP side of love. Leave the past in the past… set yourself free…move on and embrace/discover your future. While I don’t necessarily read specific parallels with David’s personal life into their meaning— they may very well be there. 🙂 After all, we know the song reflects what he truly believes.

And, abanana, you’re right, David’s bro is NOT the one who lifts the kid to the hoop.

    • TOfan says:

“Leave the past in the past… set yourself free…move on and embrace/discover your future.” By jove, I think you’ve got it, Beebs!

… One of the reasons I took the screencap of David walking by the wall (near end of post) is because I love that he’s walking in the direction of the big white arrow. Moving forward, not looking back. So much to learn from this dude. ay ay ay

    • Kizzi says:

I love your simple and uncomplicated interpretation beebee!

  35. awestruck says:

JR – David’s face is sooo very expressive isn’t it. Yes, a total opposite ‘look’ for him, a stand up and take notice that I am NOT one dimensional.

There was some comments re the watch switch, some tweets to David about it with his response that it was – what was the word he used – intentional? But, didn’t further elaborate. Would be kinda neat to know why.

beebee – which one is Daniel then?

    • TOfan says:

Yes, he said the watch switch was intentional. I tweeted him asking if it was a nod to WFM … “can’t decide between the left side or the right” but I guess he’s busy ‘cuz I haven’t heard back. 😆 And yes, Daniel’s the one in the dark grey T-shirt who passes the ball in one shot. My mistake, will fix it!

  36. emmegirl says:

beebee – I just posted, should have waited because your interpretation is amaaaazing!

You are so right, the song reflects his outlook on life. He is a realist.. put things where they belong, don’t dwell, things happen for a reason, focus more on positives (all this while not being dismissive or minimizing pain and hurt and tribulation)… and all wrapped up in an uptempo, easy-to-dance-to summer pop song! I kinda think he is a genius!

Cool that he will see Natasha Beddingfield – wonder if she will give another peck on the cheek, lol.

  39. peppertara says:

I am happy that David will be performing with Natasha on the bill, know he will love that!
Beebee, loved your interpretation of the fellow jumping the fence, could be a lot of deeper meanings in this video with David expressing as much as he can within the means he has to work with.
I know some people are not loving this video. They can’t seem to deal with a more somber David. I for one, say….give the guy a break…give his cheeks a rest! He can’t smile from ear to ear 24/7! He needed to interpret this song differently, with all the heart, heartache, soul and emotion that he feels and understands within himself and feels for others.
I think he did it beautifully and this video has definitely become my favorite of his! I say bravo to David!
I’m hoping the video will help the song move up and be heard all over. Doesn’t seem to be much promo for it otherwise ?? Why, just don’t know, kind of baffling! Hopefully David will get to perform his new single at all the upcoming little concerts, would be a good thing,

    • emmegirl says:

… and there are those who complain that he is too smiley and not deep enough..can’t please everybody.

I love the video, shows another layer of David, and there are alot of layers!

Thanks JR, love those stats. Let’s keep SBL rolling!

  40. peppertara says:

One more note….wasn’t criticizing anyone who may not like the video. Was just in fun really, should have clarified that! Although I do think that in time everyone who is a fan will warm up to the video possibly.
After all, it is David and I can’t seem to find the word disappoint in my Arch dictionary.
    I’m done now….have a lovely day everyone.:)

  41. TOfan says:

    peppertara,
I haven’t seen the comments from peeps not liking 3D-David (i.e. more than just a smiley face) … I have a feeling they’re probably the same few who often complain after photoshoots & shows that he smiled too much. Just a theory. 🙂

My take on it is that David the consummate storyteller is doing so again here.

He’s pensive and full of ennui when singing about how love can tear you apart and then he lets the joy rip in the chorus to remind us that, despite all that, don’t give up on love … it can save us all.

And just a reminder that you can watch the TCA red carpet parade tomorrow (Sunday) here: http://www.ustream.tv/teenchoiceawards/v3 … or here: http://www.teenchoiceawards.com

        25 to 8 cool!

  44. 2bewithualways says:

I’m a daily Snow Angelz lurker. I hope it’s OK to tell my story & how David’s song & video have made an impact on me. It’s a little difficult to put into words, but here goes…

I’m finding it hard to say anything simply because my feelings about it are so personal. I just can’t put into words how the video made me feel without coming across like I’m feeling sorry for myself. On the contrary. David’s song & video has made me see I have missed out on something that could have been wonderful. It’s hard to admit to myself that David could have been addressing me as a person who gave up on love. I’m been single for almost 30 years. I had short term relationships which ended when too much was asked of me. I was afraid to get hurt. I was accused more than once of sabotaging myself & that I would end up alone. I knew what I was
doing when I gave up on a couple of relationships but was too scared to commit to.

Then there’s my children. The love I have for them is so painful sometimes. When one of my children passed away, I became obsessed with my other children. Afraid I would lose them too. I vowed they would be my priority always…which in turn affected any relationships which could have turned into something long term & good for all of us. I have come to the realization I will be “alone” for the rest of my life because I gave up. Because I didn’t trust that I could have been “on the ride of my life” more than once.

There are all kinds of love and David, in his genius, integrated almost all in his video, but the love that can be the most painful & which is so hard to reconcile is the love between family members simply because unlike romantic love, you can’t replace your mom, dad, siblings or other members. Once there is a break in trust between family, the love is there under the surface even if it’s denied and it can be so very painful. I have not experienced that particular kind of loss but I know people who have & who have not spoken to parents or siblings for years due to long forgotten wrongs. Then there is the love of our pets…

As much as I like the video and the meaning David coveys, I magined the video would be more like this:

The video would have some scenes depicting love between family members, with friends, and the very special love we have for our pets, as well as romantic love, as David is walking the streets of LA, like the scene with the couple on the skateboard, or the little boy being lifted up to the basket, or the young girl helping the lady with her groceries, except David is seen off to one side observing those scenes. David is “walking the streets”, like at the beginning, throughout the video as he comes across examples of the different kinds of love he is singing about with him in each scene observing. Then at the end, instead of sparklers & confetti, I can see David meeting up with a group of friends & they all happily walk/run down the street towards what looks like an amusement park until they disappear as the song ends. That was what I imagined the video could have been like. But that’s just me & my imagination. 😀

David has a way of making me soar with so much happiness I could burst, and at the same time he can break my heart with just a song. He has influenced my life for the better and so deeply that it is scary. “Something ‘Bout Love” can mean different things to different people. To me it reminds me that perhaps it’s never too late. It gives me hope. 🙂

Everyone who loves the video has said just about everything else there is to say about it.

Thank you Snow Angelz for all you do as Fans of David. You are the best!

  45. abanana77 says:

    {{{2bewithualways}}}

I am happy you decided to tell your story and become a de-lurker! Snow Angelz has the friendliest / most awesome people in the fandom (if you ask me) and, as I have found out, you are always welcome here!

I especially love what you wrote “He has influenced my life for the better and so deeply that it is scary. “. This is true for me too and sometimes it blows my mind.

  46. TOfan says:

    2bewithyoualways,
thank you so much for sharing your personal story. Between your words and abanana’s, I’m a mess here. I’m so glad SBL reminds you that it’s never too late, that it gives you hope. Someone wise once told me if you make room in your life for love, it’ll find you. I find that hopeful message in this vid as well. People helping each other lovingly.

And when you said, “David has a way of making me soar with so much happiness I could burst, and at the same time he can break my heart with just a song” a lightbulb went off for me. You’re so right, SBL also describes the emotional rollercoaster of being a David fan. Wow. So many layers, we’ve really only just scratched the surface, haven’t we?

  47. awestruck says:

    (((2bewithualways)))

“Something ‘Bout Love” can mean different things to different people. To me it reminds me that perhaps it’s never too late. It gives me hope.”

Yes, I agree that the power of a song is that people relate to it in a way that is meaningful to them.

You have courage to de-lurk and you now have hope. With both anything is possible.

    Welcome!

  48. peppertara says:

I agree TOfan….we have just scratched the surface when it comes to David and I have a feeling we will be seeing many more layers unfold. I am quite loving the mult-dimensional David. As for a few not warming up to the video, it is what it is….seems to be only a few though.

I am thrilled abut the recent stats! I was just on Youtube too and the video was the 5th most watched video with over 500,000 views now, wow!

2bewithualways…..gosh, thank you for sharing your lovely story. David has a way of getting to the heart of the matter in so many peoples’ lives. I can certainly relate to the song too. When you said….
“He has influenced my life for the better and so deeply that it is scary.” Yes…know exactly what you mean. I sometimes ask myself how someone so young can have so much influence. Then again I am talking about David, a rare breed. If David’s fans ever got together and shared all their personal, uplifting stories, I think there would be enough for not only a book but enough volumes to fill a library!

    • TOfan says:

      peppertara, aren’t those stats amazing!?!

And @omygoshashley tweeted her awesome strategy to boost those stats even more. She made a full SBL playlist, so you just click “Play All Videos” at this link and you’re all set => http://tinyurl.com/38kxjyn

  49. silverfox says:

    David is coming to Louisville!

I have this fear he will cancel though! I don’t know why. I will be on pins & needles until the morning of the Bash…

I’m also wondering if David will have a band. HE MUST HAVE A BAND!

I am so nervous for him! I want Louisville to welcome & LOVE him! I want the WDJX dj’s to come away from the Bash after meeting David, with a new perception & respect for David as a person and performer. I want them to see David is no longer the David from AI. 😀

    • TOfan says:

      {{{{SF}}}}
I immediately thought of you when I saw the announcement (& love that it’s called “the Bash” lolol, how perfect!) I remember having the same nerves when he came here on the A.I. Tour (Toronto audiences can be, um, reserved)… but where David goes, love & respect follow, so hang on, hang in for the ride of your life, girl!!!! <333

  50. silverfox says:

    TOfan,

Just can’t help but be nervous for David. Of course there are four other performers + a “special AI guest”, and it’s not like this is a make or break thing for David. 🙂

And he did have his first & so far only accoustic perfornance here last year which was so unbelievably awesomeage but just a memory in my mind as there is not one video, audio or photo of the actual concert. It’s sad David did not allow someone in his crew to tape an audio if only for posterity. Or maybe he did, who knows? Anyway, of the 300 fans who were packed into the Hard Rock Cafe I think more than half were out of town fans of David. There was NO promotion here at all for that gig. It was promoted only on David’s fan sites.

But this gig for the yearly Bash is heavily promoted here on WDJX. Last year, Bieber was one of the performers. He was..uh..terrible. Now look at him. He is a superstar & he’s everywhere. I just shake my head in disbelief especially because I have seen no improvement. I know the little guy is a Canadian lad, but I must be honest.

Anyway..I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well & will continue to say my nightly prayer for David.

    Sweet dreams Snow Angelz!

ps…can you believe, I have been listening to WDJX since noon & have not heard SBL, but they are right now playing Chris Brown!? **sigh**

    Sad 😦

  51. TOfan says:

SF, oh man, that acoustic show must have been so amazing. I was also hoping at least some stealth audios would have surfaced by now.

Yes, Bieber is truly everywhere. Even the 20somethings in my office admit to liking him, so he’s def. got “it” … I have nothing against him & wish him every success in the world, but in my view, Biebs = teen sensation, David = sensational! 🙂

I’m off to see Paul McCartney tonight and am almost as excited as I get for a David show, LOL. Sad to miss the TCA red carpet excitement though, so please fill me in folks!

  52. awestruck says:

    Well, 966,671 views on DA’s S’BL video!!!

    • awestruck says:

      From Archuleta Fan Scene

“The official YouTube version of David Archuleta’s “Something ‘Bout Love” has had over 1 million views in less than 4 days! This is not counting the HD VEVO version. For comparison, the music video for “Crush” took 10 days to get 1 million views.”

  53. abanana77 says:

Awesome how many views his SBL video is getting. It’s definitely helping promote the song! I was bored and started reading the comments (don’t judge, lol) and I found some interesting ones (from mostly non-fans I think):

I was watching Adam Lambert vids when this adverticement under the screen went “Something ‘Bout Love by David Archuleta Premiere”. Before Glam, I used to listen to Archie. And because of Archie I met Adam. I’m gonna support Archie’s next album. 😀

Great song. havnt heard about david for a long time.. maybe hes gonna rise again!

i have the jeans he is wearing at 57 seconds. i got the from the buckle! 🙂 [LOL]

his eyes look like keanu reeves. [LOLOLOLOLOL]

great song, i’m not a huge fan but he has a great voice, i love justin bieber and i don’t know why david isn’t as popular as justin

a lot of people say he’s boring yada yada but i don’t think he is. He’s someone that I wouldn’t be embarrased to say “I’ve gone to his concert” or “I like his music”. Just because he’s not stripping and kissing girls left and right doesn’t mean he’s not a good entertainer.

Am I the only one who thinks David Archuleta looks like Mike Myers? Lol anyway, amazing song, but I feel the Video On Trial will enjoy bashing David and his videoclip. [LOLOLOLOLOLOL]

I love this!! Why haven’t I heard it before?? When did it come out??

first time i have heard this song but i love it already……………..for some reason i used to hate this guy but i got his music stuck in my head and i love it i listen to it everyday that i live……………:)

omg if the beat and melody of the songs first 5-10 secs dont hook me i dont like the song, but this song did it, wow

OK I am done now but that kept me entertained for a while. Lalalal

    • awestruck says:

abanana – what a hoot reading these, thanks for posting! Mike Myers??? Bwahahah!

And….his Youtube views for SBL are now over a million….and climbing, wow! A good day in Archuleta land I would say. 🙂

abanana77: Good to see some of those comments from the video views. The one comparing him to Mike Myers, ha? Just didn’t get that one, lol. Maybe the viewer was missing their glasses!

    Have to see that!

Yes, thanks for the pics. I especially like David amongst all those surfboards, cute!
David was wonderful on the ‘blue’ carpet. How sweet to mention his fans that way. Go-getters, I like that. Aww…he feels blessed to have his fans. Don’t think he quite knows how incredibly blessed his fans feel.

Looking forward to seeing David rap his presentation for the Hottie award! Wonder if by next year David will be on the list for a Hottie award. Hmm, probably would make him a little uncomfortable. 🙂

  61. awestruck says:

TOfan, 3 hours – wooza! He can’t be doing back to back concerts.

thanks for the vids and pics, he is looking more and more relaxed and grown up heh?

I am getting big chuckles out of the YouTube comments. This from what appears to be a young music fan (I’m guessing over 18 and under 25) from San Diego whose cyber name is 11prepprincess11:

Hello David. Will you be my husband for life and beyond? Yes? That is just fantastic. Because you are gorgeous, and you are amazing at singing and living. Therefore, us getting married will just make life a lot sweeter! 🙂 Pretty sure God spent a LITTLE extra time on you…

    Love you! And this song/video!

    Now that’s a marriage proposal…. 😀
