… with the cure to quarantine blues!!!!
YOU GUYYYYYYSSSSSSSSS!!!!! THIS ALBUM! THESE SONGS!!! THIS ALBUM!!!!
.
Confession: I was expecting this record to be good but nowhere in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would be this good! For real!
He does things with this melodies and rhythms and lyrics and building the songs and HIS VOICE! that I didn’t even know were possible.
When will I ever learn not to underestimate The Archuleta?! 🙂
He subversively takes the inner struggles of his mind and the dark places we all go and spins them into infectious, rollicking bops! Who would think that would be such a magical, uplifting, life-affirming combination, BUT IT IS!!!!
(Sorry, not sorry, for all the all caps… IT’S THAT KIND OF DAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!)
I don’t want to dissect every song because I feel that takes some of the magic away, but, of the brand new songs we hadn’t heard yet, I will say that my first gut reaction, puts Patience as my fave for now (I am a sucker for that soulful pop, R&Bish vibe), closely followed by The Good in the Bad (THAT CHORUS!!!!!), and a tie between Future Self/Brave/Switch/You Worry. 🙂
Fave lyric so far: “Fear is like a magnet, keeps pulling you down” (Good in the Bad)… like, whoah, lightbulb moment!!
HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS??!!!! THOUGHTS??!!!
p.s.
AND HOW AWESOME WAS THAT ACOUSTIC LIVE???!!! HIS VOIIIIICE!!! Okay, I’m done, lol… I’m dying to know what you guys think!!!
a weird take on this BUT am i the only one who thinks it’s ok to have this album NOW and the tour to look forward to? SURE it would have been fantastic to see the shows as planned BUT how INCREDIBLE to anticipate these new SONGS LiVE??? so i’m ok with the JOURNEY wherever HOWEVER it takes us and if i have to wait for LiVE SHOWS i am more than ok with it. BLESS the MUSIC MAKERS.
There is truth in what you’re saying! Something amazing to look forward too!!
i think i need time and space for the songs to settle in. each one is incredibly powerful and i need time to process and appreciate each one on their own and then also in the collective context of the album. truth be told, i might need a David IG live deep dive for the later.
Yes, Janey….the time couldn’t be more perfect👍 Who knew😉
What do I think!!!!????
Oh my gosh….
So many things to hear and absorb in these songs…. I have not listened enough to say faves yet, but BRAVE is in my head rn.
I feel so blessed to be a supporter of this amazing guy.
So proud and happy about the stats too!!
Go David go!!!!
((((hug))))s
Thanks for the sqeeeeeeees TOfan! I feel ya! 🎶🎵
David, David, David…you never cease to surprise me! Hmmmmm….a fave? Not yet! I need some “me” space & my earbuds to get to know these gems better! I can say, I dig the vibe of this album! He is still amazing me with those vocals!!!
Yes, yes, yes….this baby is funkalicious! I love the grooves, and of course the magic he creates with his voice and musicality, the unexpected turns.
Every new album I declare, imho, his best, and this one, for me, is too!
janey – I feel this is the perfect time for him to have released this😊
Janey… I need your zen perspective on things, love everything you said!! I am definitely trying to be “paaaaaaatient” 🙂
Great interview with Pop Crush about the record!

And David really opens up in this podcast:

You guys have to watch this!! They are so cute together and she nails him on a few things! lol
perhaps this is how the luis fonsi tweet came about
Such a unique, relevant, terrific album! Yes, the songs are all so good. So much so that I can’t pick faves yet (other than Just Breathe which I loved since day one). Congrats to David for this amazing piece of work. So appropriate too, at this time. What you said is so true TOfan……
“He subversively takes the inner struggles of his mind and the dark places we all go and spins them into infectious, rollicking bops! Who would think that would be such a magical, uplifting, life-affirming combination, BUT IT IS!!!!”
Absolutely and he does it so well!
The Instagram live was great…like a mini acoustic concert in my living room. 🙂
Ok…so ….YES to Luis Fonzi….yesssss. He was the first (and really, only) Latin artist I ever paid attention to, and in a smaller way, his voice hits me emotionally like David’s…it’s got that cry in it, and they have a similar “sweet spot.” Love his singing. Which is whyyy I think a collaboration would be awesome!! Not only would their voices sound wonderful together, but emotionally, I think they both sing from the heart…hence the “cry”, also the Latin, passionate thing. SO Daviidddd, pleeeease don’t be afraid…I think he’d still love to collab with you!! He also seems like a nice guy. I get it…it’s still intimidating, but I think if he could find the confidence…he’s got nothing to fear there. He doesn’t realize how much he brings to these things, no matter who the artist or how accomplished, David more than holds his own…he really brings something the other artist only shines more with. DO IT! :)) #youAREWorthy Fingers crossed!
As for new album…Love. Only have listened a few times through entirely…but You Worry was the one that hit me first, and I definitely relate. Also love Patient…in fact, awoke today singing that…like an earworm…ALWAYS a good sign. Gotta listen more…I also love the unique way of putting these serious topics to cool vibes, bops, tunes. (I honestly had wondered how that was gonna happen…and yes…always derive the same, Deb…whyyyy do I ever have a shadow of a doubt?!!) I do always remember how musical to his core he is…so ultimately, he’s gonna do right by the music. And lyrically…he’s just been impressing me more and more over the years.
In a way, as I read somewhere someone said…kinda nice to have this during these weirdest, “downest” of times…alone to reflect on and enjoy. Then hopefully, when we come “out into the sun” again…hopefully be able to celebrate, live, during happier times.
I sure hope so too, Amy!! ❤
“memorizing lines are hard for me because my mind is like a CD that skips. It’s got all these scratches that prevents the lines from coming out smoothly” awww, David!!!

Wow…Brave and The Good In The Bad, which I’m listening to as I type this…chair dancing! This album. All his complete works, particularly the ones he had more control over, (I include TOSOD, which, even though he was on a label…felt it was the story he wanted to tell then…)…anyway…each complete work, a new journey, new sounds, growth, outgrowth of where his muse takes him at the time…all make him a true artist. All fresh…never more of the same. ❤️🎶👏
oops, so yea, that’s me..Amb4DA
I loooove Brave! Love it! And Patient! And the Good and the Bad – he said his mom asks if he is doing a song you can dance to. Can she salsa to this one?! Need is beautiful, “why do I do that?” keeps popping up in my brain, the entire thing album is amazing.
As I listen to this incredible album, as with each album, you notice his growth as an artist, in every facet. But for someone whom I have always considered mature for his age, regardless of it, his growth as a man, as a singular person really shines through on this album. I mean, you hear it in all his works simply because of his emotional depth, but this one feels even more so (if any of this makes any sense.)
Makes total sense, emme! It’s such a joy to see him come into his own as an artist and as a person… I’ve been seeing a lot of posts from peeps who’d wondered where he’d been and I just feel so blessed to have not missed anything along the way, lol. (And Brave, Patient and The Good in the Bad are my current faves as well!!)
Y’all, just popping in to say how proud I am of David right now. You all know the feeling. Most of us have followed his career since Idol days & every moment has shown us his realness, the way he has always shared with us…& now more than ever, This album is everything & I feel he’s finally in a good place. GO, David❣️…all I can add between tears & Sunshine walking all over my iPad. 😌
P.S. Brave is my go-to song for now…and Deb, thanks for a fabulous tribute post to David’s new creation, Therapy Sessions ~ every song is special in itself🙌
You guyyyssss! This podcast is 70 minutes of David GOLD!!!!
He dives deep into Idol, dealing with his label, and the podcast hosts are musicians so it’s like eavesdropping on a fascinating musician conversation!
But let me know what you think!
The podcast was incredible. I think what garnered my interest the most was what happened after Idol with management, the struggle to get Christmas From the Heart made and the insights as to how a song gets to radio (and to why Crush did so well) and David saying he’s not into taking that kind of risk. It answered so many questions about how the music industry was then and what it’s like to be an independent artist today.
I loved the format, artist-talking-to-artist, with all that David has learned with over two decades in the business, I could see him being a very successful host.
Gorgeous and so David. 12 years later and still has the power to slay.
{{{{{Kizzi}}}}}!!!!
Love this latest instalment of the songwriter/producer chat for Just Breathe!
The bts videos are such a bonus! I love how it let’s us see the true talent of IsaB, how her relationship with David works and I’m appreciating the masterful talent of Nate – quiet but powerful! One question comes to mind, I wonder when IsaB is writing with David if she only thinks about what lyrics fit him or if she considers what his voice is capable of doing musically. Or maybe that’s Nate’s dept as David’s voice is another instrument in the mix?
omigosh my favourite one yet!!!!
Looooove Lady V.!!!! So much friendship and love came through this chat… how much fun would they all be to hang out with?! lol
DANCE REMIX.
In my top two favorites, looove this song!
Dance remix would be awesome!
Okay, I know I said this last time but THIS ONE is my favourite one yet! hahahaha
LOVE Future Self and when Si mentioned Tom Petty (about the guitar section) I was FLAILING, love Tom!!
p.s. cool podcast interview with David (who comes in at about 101:10, thanks for the heads up, Janey!):
David seems to have a lot of very good people in his corner. And isn’t Si just the nicest guy to be around? Anyone who says David’s vocals were perfect on one take is my friend for life (Lady V agreed, btw). Whoever came up with the idea of these bts videos got it right. Who do we send flowers to? Kari? Jake? Nathan? All three?
