Since there’s not much else going on this week 😳 … I thought I’d share my appreciation for David Archuleta‘s Therapy Sessions – The Lost Sessions, in particular the song Therapy.
Where do I begin, though?
The understated way it opens, like David’s just chatting with you about how it’s goin’?
That voice…?
The way he hits you with killer lines like “When I look at you I wanna see forever”? I mean, COME ON!!
Or when the beat picks up and this delicious groove slides under your skin and starts your shoulders shimmying…
And before you know it, you’re gliding around the living room, arms swaying in the air like a wheat field… like hypothetically, I mean….
And that voice…
Or when the chorus kicks in… “imma need some therapy” and you realize he’s so smitten with this person (yes, I did just use the word “smitten”) that he doesn’t want to ruin it all again, that he’s willing to get the help he needs to try and make it work this time because that is how much he cares.
CUE FLOODS OF TEARS!!!!!!
And that voice…
And through it all there’s this super cool vibe and infectious percussion — and rhythm is a dancer (to quote legendary ’90s Eurodancers Snap!) — so you must DAAAAANCE!!!!
And then my favourite part:
I guess I always build fences around me
But I want to build a gate and let you in
So we can lay on the grass and be happy
It’s a beautiful life
CUE MORE FLOODS OF TEARS!!!!
Then the layers of grooviness continue to build until there’s only one inevitable thing to do:
INSTRUMENTAL WITH DREAMY VOCALIZATION DANCE BREAK!!!
Did I mention that voice?
And then it’s all over even though it feels like it just started and without realizing you’ve done it, you must have it the replay button so it never really does have to be over.
This time I don’t want to break break… up
Um, I clearly need some therapy. 😳

Thank youuuu so much for this! I’ve been secretly wishing for a new post AND THIS SONG is the perfect one to highlight. All I can say is this; Therapy is the most heartbreaking song on the planet and also the one I know could be on and should be on the radio TODAY. The vibe sits so easily that you barely have to think about it and you just gotta move (OH TO HEAR THIS LIVE HURRY VACCINE!!!) and the center of the song, those lyrics, that someone is so broken that they want to fix themselves in order to have the life and relationship they know they deserve. Cue: TEARS.

It’s such a great song (and so is the other one)! Therapy is beautiful really, that song says a lot and all of it tugs at your heartstrings. Makes me keep hoping and affirming that D will find his special person, embrace it and will be singing about it. ❤ He so deserves that. You conveyed it so well Deb as you always can and yes….can melt butter! 😀

Um…can we please have a Michael Orland appreciation post so we can squee about that Insta Live just now….love what a fan boy he was. So cool. The Idol Season 7, bts stories. David telling all about Star Search…I know we knew some of those stories, from his book, but so cute hearing him tell them. I came in a little late, so I’ll have to go back and watch again. Anyhoo, Deb…s’ok if you don’t do a new post…but just had to come here and squee somewhere!! 🙃🙂
Isn’t it amazing, we’ve probably watched 425,000 interviews over 12yrs and STiLL there is always something new to learn. David’s reply about learning his craft and how long it took to perfect it is something he has never mentioned before. He makes it look so easy that I know I might not have given him enough credit for how incredibly good he is. And I loved their mutual admiration, Michael is to the piano what David is to a song. Both are so spontaneous, I hope they get into a studio together one day.

David did a livestream for FamilySearch Brasil and talked about his family’s history & sang I Will Go & Do, I’m Ready, Nunca Pense… IN PORTUGUESE!!! … My Little Prayer and Glorious/YouSay. He shares a lot of really cool things about his grandparents and other family that I’ve never heard before. There’s a translator speaking over him in Portuguese, but you can still hear David. (It’s cool to see the comments scroll by… they go crazy for Nunca Pense, lol!). All 48.50 Glorious 🙂 minutes are saved here (thx. Janey for the heads up!! <3):
David took an active roll in finding out about his relatives and discovered some musical talent that has obviously been passed down. There was also a spot that David explained how with a leap of faith, his mom’s family came to the United States. It’s a wonderful heartfelt story and worth a listen.
