… calmly, yet somewhat bashfully, acknowledges his introduction and then humbly ‘tips his hat’ to the people who put so much work into the foundation, he swells my heart with pride.
… sings “Contigo en la Distancia” with an even deeper passion than ever before that leaves my heart breathless.
… extends his hand to help his Mom up on stage for “To Be With You” and fills my heart with warmth at the respect that David exhibits.
… rolls his eyes as Momma Lupita leans over to give him a kiss on the cheek, which makes my heart laugh as he endures the embarrassment.
… makes a major gaff hitting the wrong chord in TBWY and says OOH, refocuses and carries on to deliver the rest of the song with an intensity that has my heart sighing.
… asks the crowd just before he sings Crush “What’s so funny?” after calling Jimmy Smits “a good egg” … it tickles my heart to know he has made friends in the Hispanic arts community.
I gladly give up as much of my heart as needed to be privileged to witness the joy that this young man continues to deliver to me just by being himself.

AWEsome post Awestruck 🙂 … so many tug-at-your-heart moments at this event. I’ve watched the Contigo vid, ahem, a few times and the crowd reaction, right from the start of the song, gives me chills. They really “got” him.
I also loved the way David introduced TBWY with that story about it being someone’s wedding song and how much that meant to him …and how he wondered how they heard about it, “it’s not like it was on the radio or anything” … oh, David. 🙂
TOfan – I hope that David gets a boost of confidence everytime he thinks of that TBWY story.
I love David because he is always himself no matter where he is!!

Awestruck, You touched my heart with this review. It had so many beautiful moments and you captured my favorite. I am always so happy when an audience gets David the way we do. It doesn’t surprise me but it pleases me enough to make note. The good egg remark tickle me especially because it is a saying from my generation and I wonder where he picked this up to have it come so naturally. I’m so excited for the upcoming concert this weekend. For those of you going I wish you a safe and wonderful trip. We’ll enjoy it from afar this time but our spirit will be with you as you shower David with love and exuberance. I think David will be surprised at how many of his fans will be there. I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Like Heidijoy said, the "good egg" remark made me smile too. Just as his expression "back in the day" makes me smile. 🙂 What a joy he is and filling hearts with that joy seems to be what he's all about.
Contigo…always thought it was a pretty song by other artists (had heard a few versions) but never did I imagine that one day I would hear a very young man sing it with such heart, powerful expression and passion as to put all other versions in the "nice" category.
There simply is no one that can interpret and express a song better than David. He is the song.

I love your post Awestruck! It’s so completely full of the reasons we all continue to lose our hearts, piece by piece, to this young, beautiful, and extremely talented artist from Utah. I’m in love with Contigo. Even tho’ I don’t understand the language, I understand the feeling that he puts into the song, and that seems to be all I need. As peppetara said, “He is the song”.
I’m just glad the pieces of my heart he steals are so healthy -after all the emotions he puts it through with every song he sings and every live performance!

I don’t know Spanish, well just a smidgen, and when I listen to “Contigo en la Distancia” despite the language barrier, I just feel the beauty, the emotional connection, the love, the heart of it. And then when I actually read the lyrics, I enjoy it all the more….

I think that last “estooooooooo-ooooooo-oooooyyyy……..” says it all. (For those of us that are Spanish impaired, “estoy” means “I am, to be” and connotes how you feel and where you are.)
And when he closes his eyes and then opens them, well, that is a defining moment. Andrew Lloyd Webber got it wrong…yeah, the eyes say it all…but IMHO he failed to realize that the eyes closed say a heck of a lot, if not more, than open, especially the interplay between closing and opening as they relate to the lyrics.

When I first heard David sing Contigo as a young boy I remember looking up the words….and loving the lyrics…. thanks for bringing them here Kizzi….. man he nails this song…. (and every other one he sings, lol)
