I posted something late last night then scrapped it when I realized that this quote from COS sums up what being a David fan is all about for me.
Maybe it means something different for you. Maybe it means simply liking David on Idol. Maybe it means listening to some of David’s music some of the time. Maybe it means listening to David’s music all of the time. Maybe it means buying a song or two and seeing the occasional show. Maybe it means wanting to hear him sing every song ever written – and to be there live when he does it.
Maybe it means following him on Twitter and watching his vlogs now and then. Maybe it means checking out his concert YouTubes and leaving comments there. Maybe it means voting in online polls. Maybe it means supporting David’s favourite charities. Maybe it means hanging back and watching his career unfold from afar, cheering him on from the sidelines.
Maybe it means ignoring hackers who try to stir up trouble and spread false rumours. Maybe it means letting those hackers whip you into a fearful frenzy to the point where you’re tweeting David demanding action and answers. Maybe it means respecting him as an artist and a person free to defy your expectations of him. Maybe it means wanting nothing from David beyond what he’s willing to give. Maybe it means wanting everything and more.
We each have to find our own way on this crazy ride but for me it all comes back to David’s words above, “completing the experience of singing” — I feel blessed to do just that.

Double standing O! gosh….tears… I don’t have words… …thinkin what to say… thanks ! Respect enough to let him live his life and build him and others up… love him enough to let him go….. Be there to build up when words cut like razor blades… exchange the joy, optimism, peace, happiness, healing that is in David’s music. ….follow his example in supporting charities… There is no time to waste in demanding anything from him… or giving hackers the attention they want… Moving on… looking up… supporting David in the full sense … I will always be here for him… always. Thanks again for your wonderful article and quote.. That quote of Davids puts everything into perspective! 😀

Ah TOfan – I just finished re-re-re-re… reading COS and this quote makes me feel… … … humble. To have David acknowledge his fans as being an integral part of his singing, well – no words really except that like you I feel blessed.
I have so little time now to participate online, but I read always, think of the wonderful fan community and of the wonderful friends I have made being a part of it. It has given me a new perspective.

I love that excerpt from Chords of Strength. David is so special!! I sometimes feel like I’m a 24-7 fan since I retired. ha!ha! I went and watched Decisions,Decisions Feb 22,2011 during some of the turmoil in the fandom. I trust and support David. The DVD of Motab is currently in Denver on the way to Iowa where I live.(It was in Utah yesterday)

thanks, everyone, love you guys!!! ♥ Not gonna lie, was not a happy camper yesterday but I find reading David’s own words in COS is almost as calming and soul-restoring as listening to him sing. Like this tweet from him today after his little Twitter par-tay:

I haven’t kept up with the details of the twitter hackers, etc. Must have been a defining moment in the downside of humanness on the net.
I think the negative extremes we see on the net dwell in the realm of usurpted power… the relative anonymity coupled with the speed of getting one’s words, pictures, thoughts, etc out to so many…very powerful, that.
Then there is the lure of “collateral” celebrity status. Meaning if u stand close enough or interact enough or hit the net enough about any celebrity, you might believe you are a lesser celebrity living under THE Celebrity’s umbrella. Sheer maddness.
After I read COS I realized David voice is strong, his focus firm, and his commitment to HIS values solid. He will do as he wishes the way he wishes. No whining, no blaming.
I exist now in the “sit back and watch” category of fandom… and watch him grow. After AI7 I just wanted him to obtain his dream. With COS I realized he will get his dream, his way, on his timeline. All I needed to do was sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Tofan: I remember reading that entire passage from COS & was so touched by it..just thinking that David feels this way about us warms my heart. It reminds me a line from one of my favorite songs (A Song For You)… “I know your image of me is what I hope to be” ~because a morale booster is what I will always strive to be for David.

PS… just have to say… David is so wise and brilliant… look at how he brought light, happiness, ….turned the tide… today with his simple tweet. …”What kind of person do you want to be this week?” Made people look inside themselves.. then he connected with his fans by responding to them and laughing sometimes… All I could do was smile… and watch… awesome!
Aw TOfan, love this post. After a kind of whirlwind day this was so nice to see. Anything related positively to David always seems to de-stress me and bring a sense of calm and joy (used to call David my little sweet soulful stress reliever), actually still do!
You especially TOfan, have a way of putting into words and very beautifully at that, the thoughts and feelings so many of us have when it comes to David.
Yesterday’s twitter ‘shenanigans’ (I know you like that word) haha, did have me hurting for David, he didn’t deserve that. That said, today his tweets were as always…wise, kind, funny and so David….nothing’s gonna break his stride (or his fans for that matter). That quote from David’s book is one of my favorites, I remember reading it over and over again. I feel blessed to be a fan too and it is such a pleasure to support David in any way I can. Whatever David wants to share, I am a most grateful recipient! No demands, no expectations, just want to let David be David…..and that’s a wonderful thing in itself.
