Since Canadians and other international fans weren’t eligible to enter the David Archuleta DA.com Fan Fiction contest, I thought I’d post my entry right here, if that’s okay:
“Jive sucks.” HushCoolCat stared at the words in her Hillroy notebook, crossed them out and wrote instead, “JIVE REALLY SUCKS!” She threw her pen down on the table and picked up her Fan Pack box.
David Archuleta’s angelic face stared at her from the top of the memory box. A memory box? The only memory this would ever twig was the gazillion bucks in postage and handling she’d paid for the express delivery of her Deluxe CD (which she’d already downloaded from iTunes) and special friendship bracelet. A friendship bracelet — like she was 6.
HushCoolCat was young but not that young. She’d never been into boy bands or putting posters in her locker or teen magazines — even when she was a teen. She loved music — good music. Music that made her feel something, spoke to her, reminded her she wasn’t alone, made her dance around the room like a nutcase or cry herself to sleep from the sheer beauty of it.
David’s music did that. So why did his website send her emails about “daydreams” and hold contests for “fan fiction.”
She knew why. For his super young fans. The ones who looked up to him — or wanted to marry him — and could sure learn a lot from him.
She slipped the bracelet around her wrist and smiled. “The Other Side of Down” — maybe she’d wear it ironically … like her “Nietsche is Peachy” T-shirt.
Hush grabbed her paper again — if they wanted to hear from fans, fine. They’d hear from her. She’d let them know David has fans of all shapes and sizes and colours, all ages and walks of life — students, doctors, mail carriers — she knew because she’d met them. Online and at shows. So many amazing shows.
At first, this fan life seemed crazy, even to her. Obsessing over a singer, any singer was totally out of character. She’d never even asked for an autograph before — never gone further than downtown for any concert.
She had her favourite bands but never paid attention to their album sales or cared if they were on the radio or not. The coolest bands were never on the radio anyway — they made real music not middle-of-the-road formula fluff. So why care now? Why care so much? Why him? Why me, she wondered? It was like she had no choice — like this path had chosen her.
She pulled the CD out of the memory box and looked at the song titles: “Complain” — no, I can’t complain, she smiled, the song drifting through her head, “‘Cause I don’t always get everything I wanted, doesn’t turn out just the way I thought it all should be … Baby, I can’t complain.”
Then snippets of other songs ran on a loop:
“I might get tossed around but I’m always bouncin’ back.”
“Paint it over if your world is grey.”
“Things are gonna get better” — yes they are, she said aloud, thinking back to the amazing Angels video she’d just watched, the one that filled her with love and pure light.
“You find it, you hold it, you feel its grace …” It is a good place.
She set down the CD. Was that why all this was happening? Because David’s going to need us?
Because his label’s left him high and dry promotion-wise, as have the radio stations who fill their promotional concerts with his fans and then don’t play his music? Because the road ahead may be a long, bumpy one and we can help with refuelling and battery recharging?
She shook her head, chuckling at her desperate attempt to rationalize countless hours spent stalking his Twitter feed.
But it is true that we’re not going anywhere, she reminded herself. And neither is David. And surely he’ll gain an even bigger following over time — maybe not overnight like that kid with the hair, but slowly and steadily. Between his own genius talent and work ethic and the support of his fan base, he’ll continue to create the music he loves, the music he was born to make.
Hush picked up the pen, crumpled the page she’d scribbled on, and pulled out a fresh one.
“Dear David,” she began, “We love you.” It felt good to see it spelled out like that on paper. “We believe in you and are behind you every step of the way. You make this world a brighter place, a better place. Thank you for the joy you bring to each and every one of your fans — including me. Thank you for having the courage to be yourself — always. For being true to you. True to us. … you’d better make room on that backpack for a lot more bracelets because we’re not going anywhere. That’s not fiction, David. That’s a fact.”
You’re trying to make us all cry, aren’t you? Beautiful.
Sorry, Miss. B.! 🙂
TOfan, just read your awesome new post, love it all!
I have often said in my head “Jive sucks” when it comes to David, ha. Still have not figured out why they do so little to promote his music. That sucks alright. You are right though….we are not going away and neither is David. Love this:
“The coolest bands were never on the radio anyway — they made real music not middle-of-the-road formula fluff. So why care now? Why care so much? Why him? Why me, she wondered? It was like she had no choice — like this path had chosen her.”
Yes…precisely! We are all walking down David’s path with him and helping him get to his destination, whatever that may be. Whatever his label and promoters fail to do when it comes to David, we…his fans…worldwide, will make up for in whatever small (or big) way that we can. We do it because we do love David and we love walking that path with him.
Honestly, if David were resigned to singing at local coffee houses in SLC, I would make it a goal to get to a coffee house and hear him sing (so would countless others I’m sure). Not gonna happen though because he is not going away. I know it, I feel it as much as I feel my own breathing. No matter what some may say or not do, or if the path is a longer one, he’s not going away. Life will not allow that because there is just too much goodness and brilliance in that young man.
Your Dear David letter said it so beautifully…
no fan fiction there. Loveliness at it’s best.
Love this.
*sniiiiff sniiiiff*
Yes, yes, and YES! Brilliant.
I love this so much.
It’s beautiful.
And would deserve the top prize.
I want David to see it. He’d agree.
TQ for this post , u speak for all of us
Tofan!!!!
I love it, just love it. You did submit it, right?????
{{{ToFan}}} This is one beautiful little vignette!
I sincerely believe that, even though he is not one to take things for granted, David is aware that the HushCoolCats “out there” are here to stay and not goin’ anywhere.
I really do hope he reads this. (He must! He must!) It is so wrong that you can’t submit it! It is TRUTH—I think he would LOVE IT.
<333
TOfan – I love this! ❤ Especially the last paragraph! I read this late last night and it was exactly what I needed to snap me out of my "school is taking over my life" funk I was getting into, so thank you! 😀
TOfan does it again!!!
TOFAN, Thanks so much!
“It was like she had no choice, like the path had chosen her.”
O wow!…..this whole article describes my thoughts and feelings perfectly! tears…
David does need us and I’m not going anywhere! He needs to read this!
These thoughtful words to be framed and put up some where for us all to read often! Thanks so much!
Thanks for your kind words, guys … no, I didn’t submit it (not eligible outside U.S.) & I can only imagine D.’s face if he read the words “Jive sucks” lolol … the Sharpie would probs come out! 😆
I came across a quote from one of David’s interviews recently that said he cared more about whether his fans liked his new music than if he had hit singles … of course, greedy me would like to see both, but I love what you said, peppertara:
“No matter what some may say or not do, or if the path is a longer one, he’s not going away. Life will not allow that because there is just too much goodness and brilliance in that young man.” Amen to that! 🙂
oh, TOfan… jsyk (and for the record)…i know David has used the term “sucks” himself. (Of course NOW I’m gonna hafta figure out where I saw that. lol) I was kinda surprised when I saw it, but I did see it. So, I don’t think he’d be sharpifying anything in your “oeuvre” 🙂
You’re right, beebs, he def. has said “sucks” before (I can’t remember when either, though, lol) … but I wasn’t thinking he’d use the Sharpie ‘cuz of that but because of the blatant slamming of his label … he might think that himself at times but being the ever-lovin’ diplomat that he is, I doubt he’d ever criticize them in public.
But who knows, there’s always a first time! 😆
TOfan,
everyone always asks David why he smiles so much. I think you are one reason.
and you are another!!!
♥♥♥
Aww TOfan. I read this and your angst jumped off the page and wrapped around me. Wish there were more than the expressing of empathy and appreciation to give back to you.
This theme, older fan of a very young talent, when there obviously is no place for one such as I except as a fan as in the outer fringes of fans, has been a continuing puzzle for me. Add to that the restrictions of being an international fan and I imagine that it is even more constricting. I’m not blessed with the inner gifts of just enjoying the moment for what it is most of the time. I do envy those that do. I wonder “why” much (no surprise there.)
So several thoughts/observations:
In my research when a label does little to promote an artist that means the artist is probably doing his last record with them; or the label doesn’t think the record will do well anyway in today’s music market so they cut their losses by doing little promotion as their promotion dollars have to come out of the royalties of record sales. I see someone sitting with a excel spreadsheet plugging in values to a formula and coming away with the do “little promotion” answer.
I have no idea any facts in this related to David, just see the lack of promotion as do all of you. And, I hold David responsible as it’s his career, his to pick and choose, etc. Yes, he’s young, yes, he has advisors but the reality is he’s in charge. And, I believe he knows this and doesn’t shy away from the responsibility.
And as wise as we all see in much of what he does, he is also on a straight up learning curve (in a sea of sharks with the music industry in a state of huge economic flux due to plummeting CD sales, digital piracy, and then there is “the spectacle” pop artist craze) and will have those ups and downs of learning. His progress, in regards to his career and us uber fans, is simply played out on the world stage.
Then, when I see the latest videos from Tuesday and the maturity and fun David is having with his own music during live performances, with the depth that has been added to “Angels,” I know with absolute certainty this is a moment in time of what is called in economic terms a “correction.”
For the young singer/songwriter David, without every hair in place, in jeans, a tee and a plaid collar shirt, cell phone in pocket, on stage, sharing his music, his talent, his own sense of life, well, I see into his future, now.
So Jive markets him to tweens/teens and looks like maybe some college students but that, in and of itself, is two different markets with two different messages and expectations. Maybe even an oxymoron. Then throw in the older fans and I simply believe the dollars and sense of marketing to older fans (as in people over 30) doesn’t add up, at all, from the label’s perspective. We don’t buy in high volume David’s kind of music. Fact.
So the future portends IMHO David continuing to sing and create music, his way, which he is creating as he goes along. He will, as you say, always have fans and a market. What that ends up looking like is just another chapter and if we were reading this as in a “book”, then we are at the part of the book that says “To Be Continued.” 😀
Periods of “correction” are hard. In the stock market it creates great dissonance and change. Those who keep their head and know their direction and “put one foot in front of the other” get to the “other side” of that correction, to a different landscape, one where they will succeed.
So Hugs to you my friend. 😀
{{{Kizzi}}} Yes, David is in charge but, as he said during the SomethingPitchy interview, he also knows that at this early stage of his career, he doesn’t yet have the clout to make the label do his bidding across the board.
A “correction” lol, love that. I’m hoping that now that he has, ahem, strong management in place, that will help him gain even more control, both when negotiating for contracts but also publicity and promotion. Maybe even for shopping for a brand new label. 🙂
Trying hard to not focus on the dissappointing TOSOD sales 😦 but it makes me sad. I truly love this album and will be playing if forever and ever amen. The peeps I have gifted it to are also impressed not just by his voice, but by the hopeful message> music that actually helps you get through the day, makes you feel positive, and challenges you to “keep on keepin on”
Blaming jive feels good, but it is a combo of many factors….
like you said Kizzi thiis is just one chapter, of a very good book!
(((TOfan))) This is a brilliant piece!!!!!
“So why care now? Why care so much? Why him? Why me, she wondered? It was like she had no choice — like this path had chosen her”
“it is true that we’re not going anywhere, she reminded herself. And neither is David. And surely he’ll gain an even bigger following over time — maybe not overnight like that kid with the hair, but slowly and steadily. Between his own genius talent and work ethic and the support of his fan base, he’ll continue to create the music he loves, the music he was born to make.”
Amen, sister!!! And the “Dear David ” letter at the end. Bravo!!
Kizzi, thanks for the insights… I try not to think too much about all the promotion issues cause I have so little knowledge or experience in following any other artist. What you are saying makes sense to me…..I really believe that David’s gift will be used to its proper purpose because that is David’s goal… he is living it!
{{{♥Ref♥}}}
Great post Deb! I needed something like this right now! Like the rest of you I’m really bummed about the lack of promo and support for David’s album. Jive started with a bang and appears to be ending with a whimper that leaves us all scratching our heads. We all know that things happen for a reason and it’s frustrating when we don’t know what the reason is. In searching for a silver lining a thought occurred to me. A by-product of this era for David could be that he gains more respect and validation from the industry. There has always been a stigma attached to contestants from Idol. Many feel that things have been handed to them, that they didn’t work long enough or hard enough to deserve the instant recognition and opportunities that they enjoy from having been on the show. While this era seems challenging I think that, in the eyes of his peers, that David is earning his career and will get more respect because of it.
I think it’s interesting that while trying to stay positive during all this drama that my handbook for sanity came in the form of a CD with a smiling guy teetering on a chair on the cover. That round disk in the plastic box gave me everything I need to get past this and move forward.
Thank you David. 🙂
Joner, I think you’re right about the stigma attached to Idol… not to be a conspiracy theorist, but ever since Idol, there seems to have been pockets of animosity toward David, esp. in the media & we’ve seen it from some of the DJs here and there. So yes, maybe “paying his dues” and touring small gigs and stations and flogging his music the old-fashioned way will eventually earn him the respect he so deserves. Who knew the “teetering on a chair” pic would prove to be so prophetic? 🙂
I love how you wrote that! It truly captures the essence of this fan base and how we all feel at this point of time. Thank you for giving us a wonderful read =).
Thank you , VeeBee!
TOfan—-a big AMEN to what you have written! Our job is to continue to support David and hope that his management team steps up to the plate and starts getting him ‘seen’ in bigger places (TV). While the PBS show in November will be great, how many people naturally turn their evenings into watching a PBS channel. I know their are many, but not the younger crowd. They watch shows such as Glee (I have yet to see that show, I should probably try it out sometime), so maybe WEG should try to get him on there. These radio promos and charity events are all good, but they just don’t create enough exposure (imho). The radio promo he did here in Utah (B98.7) was amazing, and the dj’s loved him, but I am still waiting to hear SBL or Elevator (they did a couple of times when they were brand new). They play Crush occasionally, but his new ones just aren’t being done. Like Kizzi, I think it’s up to David and his management, and “I really believe that David’s gift will be used to its proper purpose because that is David’s goal… he is living it!”
{{hugs}}
TOfan
You are such a clever writer. thank you for making me smile for the 2nd time today 🙂 🙂
Abrra
hi guys i watched glee for the first time last night,it1s a little racey for me,i i dont know how david would fit in hes not like that, the singing is real bad imho ,i get what they are trying to do
Thanks, Tawna, Abs & Ray … any TV appearances would be awesome for David, imo, esp. live performances on shows like SYTYCD (or SYTYCD Canada ), DWTS, or awards shows. Not only does the camera love him, but, as we all know, David + singing live = ♥♥♥
Tofan, What a brilliant post!
Isn’t it painfully ironic that Jive is actively promoting a “Fan Fiction” contest while David’s album is acutely lacking much needed exposure to the world beyond the core fan base? Does someone in Jive has a cruel sense of humor? The fans’ devotion and passion for David is NOT fictional; what appears to be fictional is Jive’s sincerity in promoting the album that David had poured his heart and soul into.
David assures us he is in a good place and he cannot complain, but why do I feel like stomping the Jives? Thank you Tofan for your Dear David letter. I am already feeling a little bit better.
lol, love that YJ, stomp the jives!!!
Deb, this is a brilliant fanfiction/post. I love it. Thanks for saying what I’ve been thinking, which is “Jive Sucks”. This quote says it all for me:
“The coolest bands were never on the radio anyway — they made real music not middle-of-the-road formula fluff. So why care now? Why care so much? Why him? Why me, she wondered? It was like she had no choice — like this path had chosen her.” Apply that to David and my ODD. Thankyouverymuch.
YJ and Vicki, I couldn’t agree more.
That said, Pastel, RobertaFOD and I went to see Bryce Avary/The Rocket Summer tonight in a small (sold out) venue crammed with university-age students (guys in beanies/girls in Ugg boots 🙂 ), and I think all three of us were picturing a future David concert in that kind of venue with those type of fans.
I hadn’t heard any of those songs on the radio, yet those fans seemed to know every word to every song & cheered and sang along. Bryce was having a blast interacting with the audience (he even crowd-surfed … can’t quite imagine David doing that) and he talked about how much it means to him when fans tell him certain songs of his changed their life for the better … sure can see why he & David are pals/collaborators. But dang, he didn’t sing Stomping the Roses! 😆
Here’s a vid from his Toronto show back in April (he seems to like it here 🙂 ):
OH MY GOSH. so jealous, TOfan. When Bryce first announced this sing-a-long intimate-ey tour I was so pumped. Such a great concept. Been staking youtube for concert vids and singing along in my bedroom ever since the tour started lol. So awesome that you got to go! 😀 He’s a perfect example of how an artist can still do what he loves to do and touch lots of people at the same time without having lots of hit singles and stuff. Only bad thing is you can’t perform for fans in countries like Malaysia. 😦
great fan-fic btw! so funny and true. hahah.
Been out of town, desperately wondering everyday what I was missing. How great to come home to such bounty.
TOfan, your fanfiction is terrific, more fact than fiction. You have again somehow read my mind and found a way to put my thoughts on paper in a witty, wonderful article.
wecome back!! Catching up can be fun!!!
Deb, loved your fan fic. I was with HushCoolCat all the way. Too bad that international fans couldn’t enter. I bet there would have been lots of great ones.
Wearing this shirt that I got at the show last night to work today … Casual Fridays FTW!!! (click 2 enlarge)
A coworker has already asked about it, so I told them about the show last night & that Bryce co-wrote a song on David Archuleta’s new album.
Me: “Have you heard of David Archuleta?”
Them: “Oh, ya!”
🙂 🙂 🙂
So I sent him a link to one of the Rocket Summer’s songs AND STR! bwahahahahaaha
lol, cooool shirt!!! and it leads to subtle David promo??? Way to go ,girl!!
Wow, TOfan, would love David to play some shows like that….I think the college age crowd could get into David the singer/songwriter if they knew about him **stomps the jives** Sounds like the kinda of intimate setting David would enjoy. Too bad he did not play STR, how cool would that have been??
Partial vid of David’s Washington TBD interview this morning (thanks, yanweiz!):
Tofan, Thanks for the video. *sniffs*
Looking at that beautiful face, all calm and peaceful in the midst of all the worries about his new album, I say, Jive, Schmive.
He is not a superstar, and may never be, but he is ganna be all right, and that’s all that matters.
Jive, Schmive is right!!!! So many Elevator doors opening for our guy 🙂 :
TOfan,
Great piece of writing as usual. Love the letter to David especially. That is the core truth and everything else surrounding it is so much flotsam and jetsam. He is unstoppable, an immovable force that will scatter it all to the four winds when he comes into his own.
LOL, verrrry skerry MGR ending (courtesy of Abrra), just in time for Halloween! 😆
GUYS he is a superstar in his own right (descripe a super star?????) bebier,al he*** no
lol, great point.
Ok who is that woman and why does she think she can press those lips of hers on that glowing, soft, most blemish-free cheek in the universe and that includes babies and retouched photos.
And how the heck did David not even freak out?!? He must’ve known her. She must do that all the time and he’s used to it. Where can I sign up for her job then? I’m currently unemployed so I’ll take any crappy job, even one that involves kissing that Archuleta dude all day long. Yuck, you say. I know. But I’ll take one for the team.
No sacrifice is too great, right embe!
Adorbs alert!

Just love seeing him meeting people from all walks, spreading his joy and positivity. It is contagious, and you can see it in their faces.
you’re so right, emme! I replied to the U.N. guy who posted the Twitpic & said D. would be an amazing U.N. Ambassador! 🙂
Does make me wonder why he was having lunch with them? hmmm
d’oh guess he was going this:
TOfan, he is meeting so many people and making alot of connections. There isn’t a person he meets that he doesn’t make an impression on; he is not one who is easily forgotten. He is building a great base for his future works, musically and philanthropically.
Cannot get enough of that short Imagine in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Lordy, his voice, and that ending is beyond description…so incredibly moving. His voice has such depth, not only the tone but where it comes from inside, the meaning.
oh my, emme, thank you. I had somehow missed it. *sniff*
TOfan, happy to.
Still a little too not over the Bill Nye picture.
lol, abanana, I felt the same about the Herbie Hancock pic! 😆
LOLing at this picture of D. stalking the citrus at today’s EKS event:

TOfan..My goodness! Your FanFiction is so fantastic! I agree with everyone here who thinks David should read it. Especially the last heartfelt paragraph which describes perfectly how we all feel. 🙂
I just read a tweet about what must be a mistake, a terrible rumor…NO TOUR in the works so far??
And even worse, a rumor that there were 100K illegal downloads of TOSOD! Could it be true?
It makes me terribly sad if both rumors are true.
Sad for us if no tour & very sad for David if the download numbers are true. 😦
But David looks so happy. Or he’s a very good actor…
And about the kiss on the cheek…He obviously knows the lady. He was not in the least “freaked out” & he actually greeted her warmly, or so it seemed to me. 🙂
Love the shoes!
🙂 🙂 🙂
{{{SF}}}}
I’m sure there will be a tour in 2011 and @MelindaWEG just tweeted this:
Looks like California and Asia is the next stop for @davidarchie fans….stay tuned for updates!!
Wonder if that’s for this year?
Had not heard the 100K illegal download rumour … less $$ for D. sadly, but encouraging that he is that much in demand (trying to look at the other side of ripped off, lol).
You’re right about his reaction to the kiss on the cheek, SF, and only watching Abrra’s MGR today did I notice that right after she smooches him, the two “back up dancers” both say “We all wanna do that to David.” bahahaha, too right! 😆
Angels, from 327dauta_WashDC:
TOSOD, awesome vid … way to put one foot in front of the other! 😆 (Check out his fist bump at 2:11 <333)
Aw, what a wonderful show for David at the EKS challenge! His tweet said it all…one of his favorite crowds to perform for. I can understand why, what great interaction with the audience there and his songs were stellar! Thanks for the vids.
What he said before he sang Angels was amazing, aw David. Love his dancey stompin, putting one foot in front of the other moves on TOSOD! That’s how I feel when I listen to that song, so good!
As far as tour….well I think he is definitely going to Asia and looks like Cali. Who knows when though.
The next hint should have the word C—d- in it!
Strong wishful thinking anyway, ha.
As far as illegal downloads go for David’s music, have read a lot on that subject and it is projected that David is one of the most illegally downloaded young artists out there, such a shame. Yes, who knows what his sales would be if all those illegal figures translated into real sales. Don’t know if it’s true but t’s projected he has lost millions in sales…sigh.
But we know he will keep putting one foot in front of the other and I love the way he does it!
Those EKS videos are great! His pecs are seriously distracting though. When the heck does he find time to work out??
About the tour… I really hope there’ll be one that I can participate in. I’ve waited for my chance to go to the US for a looong time, even though patience is a virtue I don’t have 😛

great audio on this TOSOD vid from somethingooey (no, not making that up):
embe – I really hope you can get to a tour too! I would LOVE to read your recap on that one! Haha.
I’ve told myself I am going to the next tour. I don’t even care when it is (I know some people are getting impatient, and I am too kinda) but I am going. Assuming something stupid doesn’t come up, like jury duty. Hahaha
So the HUUUUGGGEEE pix have been posted. Paddles anyone? \
BTW, they are from Sandrita of Peru.
Yooo-hooooo EMBE, you ok?
Is it just me… but I found myself catching my breath when I saw pix #7…
God help us when he reaches 25yo…
The MoTab choir tweeied a pic!
David was at the Music and the Spoken Word program on Sunday and applauded the choir!!
Kinda spooky quiet today … even Melinda hasn’t tweeted at all today. 😯
… in the meantime, love this vid from knt070:
maybe it’s the calm before the storm? *wishful thinking*
Completely unrelated to anything but I facebooked my (non-David fan) friend like 5 minutes ago about how I am kinda stressing about my midterm tomorrow and how I want to give up on studying and to encourage me she sent me this quote from David: “I’m still going to keep working hard in this life. I’m still trying to do my best, and I’m happy with that. Even though it gets hard sometimes. It gets frustrating. Everybody gets frustrated in life, but there’s still a lot of good to be looking at.” (I think it’s is COS?) She must have googled it. <3333 It was amazing. She is the best 🙂
awhh I love your friend. 😀 stuff that David says also pop into my head when I’m feeling really lazy and stuff and going through something tough.
Aw, abanana….what a good (and wise) friend you have. Sending you one of David’s quotes, one terrific friend she is, for sure.
Love the little pic of David with the MoTab choir. Must be exciting for David with what’s coming up.
Loved the video to MKOP TOfan, how sweet and appropriate.
Did everyone see the Peoples’ Choice article. Loved it:

Some promo for the album with them (Jive) giving away 1000 free downloads of SBL. (for those that don’t have the song).
Next on the agenda…1000 radio stations playing his songs. 🙂

REFNAF – who is that cherubic, squeezable baby in your avi?
TMZ showed David the other night…
THIS!
“My grandmother has dementia. She only speaks Spanish & has forgotten who certain people are. She really only focuses on me, my mom, my grandpa, my great-uncle (her brother), a few others, & for some reason, David Archuleta. She thinks he is my brother, & consequently, her grandson. When she starts to scream & freak out over small things like she sometimes does, we play David songs for her to calm down. One day, when she got to meet David at a VIP event for the first time, he recognized my mom & I first & said, “Hey, how’ve you guys been?” My grandma told him in Spanish, “Oh, it’s so good to see you, grandson!” & I just looked at David & apologized. He smiled & said, “Oh no, that’s okay!” Then he looked at my grandma & told her, “You look pretty today!” My grandmother smiled & got tears in her eyes, & so did I.
People ask me why I love David? That’s why.”
from Cristina’s Tumblr
I smiled and got tears in my eyes too. Haha. ❤ Thanks for sharing that!
(((abanana)))) What a great friend!!! And be sure to listen to David, you know he is right> One foot in front of the other!
Falling Stars as the “next” single could be the hit!!! Who knows??? Yikes, I keep telling myself he may not be on the radio this era, and I really am okay with that, but a hit would be nice **squees** So, if it is on allaccess then stations are supposed to play it??
JR, what a story!!! David at his finest. Thanks so much for bringing that over, I saw the link to snarkies on twitter for it, but crash if I go there!
FYI, my avi is my adorable 10 old grandson!!!!
tres sqeezable!!
Need to work today, have a good day peeps!
abanana,
that is one special friend you have there! & your friend (and David 🙂 ) is right, hang in there & keep putting one foot in front of the other! ♥
peppertara, loved that article, esp. “he’s kind of astonishing” … is he ever! 😆
And totally random, but Taylor Swift had a live mini-concert online last night to launch her new album and there was a Live Chat going on so I thought what the heck, I joined in and snuck in a plug for David, bwahahahaha … I actually think their music should appeal to a similar demographic (although I don’t buy her albums, I know a lot of other David fans do).
JR, I actually LOVE that TMZ video … David’s utter disregard for those sleazoids as he goes about his business is genius … it’s like he’s on vacation and they’re mere annoyances trying to harass him into buying a timeshare.
… and then I read about him reaching out to that girl’s grandmother … “David at his finest” is exactly right, Ref. *sniff*
You are kind of astonishing to think of joining a TS chat and plugging David. 🙂 Probably all nonchalant-like. 🙂
TOfan – the back2back posting of the TMZ vid & the grandma story from Cristin was on purpose 😉 Glad that you saw through my intent. Story gems like Cristin’s is why I think David couldn’t care less about such things as the paparazzi.
REFNAF – muwah! muwah! muwah! to your grandson
ABANANA – terrific friends! you sure she is not an archie? 🙂
Something to smile about 🙂

ORLA, then ARIEL, ZOEY & ELI… No wonder non-archies in the larger market is getting schizo over this guy. Good or bad? What do you think?
JR, I know what you mean but when you “get” David, it all makes sense. No, he doesn’t fit neatly into any marketing “box” but that’s part of what makes him (in the words of MTV’s Jim Cantiello) “so interesting.”
He’s going for strictly PG, family-friendly appearances at this point … it’s sad that that now equates with “boring” when David and his music are anything but.
No offense to Orla and the Celtic Women, but even in that short preview, David’s voice outshines them.
Hi everyone. Just checked in to get the latest SAz news and perspective.
I was in Chicago this weekend and was walking down the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave one of the great shopping streets in the USA) and I look up to see a 8 ft David. What a surprise. Borders Bookstore on Michigan had his album cover art (huge) prominently displayed in their window. Pretty cool! 😀
wow, Kizzi, I feel like flying there now just to see that! lol
I was so surprised David didn’t do a Chicago stop on his book tour.
New thread!
🙂
