Tri-State Tour de force

Sing it! (Photos: The eternally lovely djxox)

It’s exhausting being on tour with David Archuleta. Three shows in four days over three states leave me with barely enough energy to tap this keyboard … and I’m just a fan … I don’t know how he does it.

After initially being “Crushed” that these last three shows were rescheduled, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as David returned to the stage sounding better than ever. Not only was his voice even deeper and richer than I remembered, but the love and energy of the Manchester and Providence crowds especially, fired up his performance engines to full throttle and he let loose with moves and riffs and power endings that made each show seem all too short.

Highlights for me were Manchester MH (chills, baby, chills) and SOT (tears, baby, tears), Providence TMH, ALTNOY and Crush (the 2.0 versions of these singles), and AC YEDL and Apologize (haunting … how perfect for Halloween).

In fact, just before singing Apologize, after the band had left the stage, David asked the audience how they’d enjoyed Halloween and if they had any interesting costumes to tell him about. “Really,” he said, strolling over to the edge of the stage as if we were in a rec room not a concert hall. “I’m curious.” Everyone in the front started to scream out costume names and he said, “Mandy Moore? You went as Mandy Moore?” (Turned out to be Candy Corn, lol.)

The impromptu “chat” came to an abrupt halt, unfortunately, when he heard a costume he didn’t feel comfortable sharing with the young crowd. (A Simon Cowell mask, maybe?)  “I don’t think that’s appropriate to say,” he said, moving back to the keyboard. Once there, he morphed from chatty teen to superstar before our very eyes as he delivered a soul-searing Apologize. No costume change needed for that transformation.

A little too not over My Hands.

Whoah, Canada!
As wonderful as the concerts were, the most moving musical moment for me was hearing a snippet of O Canada (in the Providence VIP) … not only from David, but from a group of lovely David friends (including djxox, River, Abrra, Dawn, SF, and others). Refnaf, Sunshine, Conditioner and I went up for our group photo with David and asked him to hold a “SnowAngelz” sign. After the VIPers started singing the first bar and I told them they sounded pretty good, I couldn’t believe my ears when David started singing right beside me.

I can honestly say it’s the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. If my friends hadn’t been there to escort me out, the cleaning crew may have found me in the same spot the next morning … still smiling.

Stay tuned for more Tri-State Tour tales….

What a fantastic time we had in Manchester and Providence! I did a recap article here:

    http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/11/love-affairs-in-manchester/

I will work on that little video section for this site this week. Does this site support some embedding that would let it run on the main page? How cool would that be? “Live” David and the Snow Angels!

I am a crazy woman trying to upload so many new videos to my chat site. Please come by anytime.

    Hey there Snow Angelz!!

Got home a few hours ago…not a terribly enjoyable trip home due to delays and crying babies on the plane, poor little babies. 😥 And I came down with a sore throat and just a plain blah feeling last nite after you (TOfan & refnaf) left. I NEVER get sick, so it was not fun! Going to bed now, but I shall be back here tomorrow sometime. 😀

    Sweet Dreams!

Oh my, Oh Canada, Oh TOfan, thanks to Janey for that video!

dj that MGR of My Hands is… no words, just that it was one of his best – if not the best – endings to date.

    Glad everyone is home safe.

  20. KT's avatar KT says:

Welcome home everyone! I too got home safely although I could use a day or two off to get my act together. I shall share my thoughts later but just wanted to say that I had a great time visiting with everyone. The SnowAngelz are awesome ladies. I enjoyed meeting many others including Happy, Nina, Zoe, Karen, John, Starrynights, Bebe, Donna and oh gosh I hope I haven’t forgotten anybody.

SF, hope you are feeling better!

Got tickets yesterday to see David skate…er…to watch him sing while the pros skate all for a very good cause. Yea!

Catch up with all of you later.

  21. refnaf's avatar refnaf says:

abanana77 , David singing oh Canada, even just the snippet is one of my fave moments of this trip. To hear him sing the entire anthem probably will never happen , but since I can hear his voice sing everything, I can imagine how sweet that would be.
I have so many moments and memories and I will just post as they come to me.
One lovely thing I remember and find so interesting is his answer in the VIP Providence to this- “What yould your career be if you were not famous”? “Well”, says David, “I don’t think being famous is a career, it’s about being able to do music”. His acceptance of the fact that he will have a career in music has been realized, and he is not at all concerned with how “huge” that career will be.

Angelica get better, we need those seeds to grow in that artistic mind of yours! you grow it girl.!

(((janey))) thanks for dropping by last thread with that vid! Is he not the most giving artist?

Kizzi, I need to thank you again for being such an inspired supporter of David’s, I love the way you give him such positive support and respect, and for bringing us fans together for partying!! I had a perfect blast.

Fa3ryg1rl, met so many peeps! and you will be met in the future I am sure!

SF, getting to spend time with you was precious! When I first met you online so long ago, I never would have thought I’d be roadtripping with you> You’re connection to the Voice is a gift , and we can all see it! ((((get better))) miss you already!

    Abrra, international spamming FTW

djx… more MGR, please. Don’t make me wait. Long distance relationships are very fragile, hahah.

Awestruck, I really see a road trip in our future, can you? glad you are feeling better. I’m sure it is agreat feeling to know your shows are coming up! woot!

  22. refnaf's avatar refnaf says:

TOfan, yikes I forgot to thank you, for all you do for snowangelz and being my David buddy from day one. (((conditioner and sunshine too)))

  23. Kizzi's avatar Kizzi says:

A fan released these 2 acoustic VIP performances from Prudential Center in Newark taken on 6/25/09:

Crazy (this performance is just CrAzY!!!

Heaven (how many of us heard David for this first time performing this song)

  24. TOfan's avatar TOfan says:

Thanks, Kizzi! Crazy already has over 1,000 views after less than 24 hours.

The fact that the uploading of these vids to youTube was held off until the tour was over speaks volumes about the loyalty David inspires in his fans.

I admit I was disappointed not to hear these songs in the final VIPs — these vids are the next best thing, thank you!

  25. none's avatar silverfox says:

TOfan, refnaf, check the Snow Angelz Edit Post page…I’m lost..like David sometimes gets! hahahaha!!

  26. refnaf's avatar refnaf says:

no probs, SF… you”ve been found and you have mail!!!

  27. refnaf's avatar refnaf says:

Those versions of Crazy and Heaven, are sooo very good, and are leaving me feeling just a tad sorry for myself that we got soundcheck for our VIP. They said it was because of time constraints as there was no opener before David. They could not give me any assurance that the Christmas tour VIP would have an actual acoustic “mini” set. Me thinks iloveallaccess needs to change their ads for the Christmas tour if this will be the case. David has given so much more than other performers, and I wonder if it has become to taxing for him to do it all. I flip between wanting it because I want more of David’s voice and wanting him to do less cause he does so much for his fans. Dilemma

  28. awestruck's avatar awestruck says:

Ditto refnaf – “I flip between wanting it because I want more of David’s voice and wanting him to do less cause he does so much for his fans. Dilemma”

I’ve been wondering about the VIP’s for the Christmas Tour. If he doesn’t sing it maybe a compromise, say, if they could give each person say a minute and a half with David and not just the 20 seconds or so it takes to have a pic taken?

  29. Kizzi's avatar Kizzi says:

Ref – when I saw the acoustic videos from Newark VIP I remembered both those songs from Tampa and the chills and sense of experiencing something truly rare in Tampa.

There was a sense of “what just happened” at the Manchester VIP for me. It was still all kinds of awesome to hear the sound check; AND yet, it was a distinctly special PRIVILEGE to hear those acoustic songs in Tampa.

But like you I wonder about what he can and can’t do given the demands on his time. DILEMMA is right! Ultimately, I just want what is right for him. 🙂

The BIGGEST impression I came away with at Manchester was that he has taken yet another quantum leap in performance…the confidence, sense of self, presentation, crisp movements & dance and facial expressions were at a whole new level.

Frankly, I thought at Manchester that the audience’s intense reaction and involvement was because of that quantum leap in performance and from the videos from Providence and Atlantic City, I am 100% confident that my impression was accurate.

OK, so this is so cool. David’s Grandfather (from Honduras) has posted on ArchuleteFanScene in Spanish and English & here is the English translation:

    Dear Family and Friends,

Using Fan Scene’s page as reference, I have written a note to the Honduran media regarding David’s support of the Lisa Lopes Foundation for the second time. The first time was in 2004 when he personally visited La Ceiba and participated in various activities including the Gran Carnival.

I have the conviction that David’s support to this Foundation as well as “Angels For A Cause” will be greatly appreciated by the Honduran people and will be favorably commented by the newspapers and radio in our country.

Thank you to the creators of Fan Scene, Mirta and everyone involved for such a lovely news publication that we are also working on (Children and friends of El Progreso.)

I am sending you this article that was posted on “El Sampedrano” an on line newspaper. The article was written by Santos Galvez a Journalist in the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

A colleague and friend of ours, he (Santos Galve) endorses David’s decision to unite once again for the benefit of this Humanitarian cause. We are thankful of Journalist Galvez’s deference to the Archuleta family and David’s promoters.

awestuck, I think they need to do something different with the VIP, can he keep answering 3 questions??? Maybe they will go to autographs, but I would definately be in line to just talk to him.

Kizzi, I agree seeing his confidence on stage is a real pleasure. I was there for his very first “Crush” performance at Ford Day, and wow, the “quantum leap in performance…the confidence, sense of self, presentation, crisp movements & dance and facial expressions were at a whole new level.” It is quite astounding how fast and far he has come and yet he retains the open honesty in his performances. Following his career is a real trip.

Thanks for the link to the fanscene article. David the humanitarian, no surprise!

  32. TOfan's avatar TOfan says:

Refnaf, “David has given so much more than other performers, and I wonder if it has become too taxing for him to do it all.” True, and perhaps too taxing on his voice, especially as he embarks on a solo tour of longer sets of challenging Christmas songs.

As I watched him ever-graciously meet & greet and snap photos with 100 or so VIPers, I tried to imagine how exhausting that must be before every single show. Not that he’s complaining, of course.

In fact, when SandyBeaches asked in the Manchester Q&A if he could sing Ave Maria a cappella, he was all set to give it a go.

He’d even started trying to figure out the starting note when The Grinch (wearing an iloveallaccess T-shirt) jumped in and said there wasn’t enough time. Soooooo close and yet so far. You could practically hear everyone holding their breath when it looked like he might sing. Dang it.

Thanks for the ArchuletaFanScene article, Kizzi! (Love the new avi!)
