Oh sweet people.
I think you can imagine my general mood this evening.
Somewhere between profound gratitude, unbridled joy and completely ruined mascara.
This man-boy of ours is just too much goodness for me sometimes.
The lovely and amazing born-and-bred Calgarian Awestruck has promised to share her own recap of tonight’s incredible concert, but I just wanted to fill you in on my own highlights from tonight.
You may remember my main reason for starting SAz was to lure David to Canada someday for a show.

Did this really just happen???
No matter that the illustrious Refnaf and I travelled further than it takes us to get to Utah for this show. 😂 It was David’s first concert on Canadian soil and we wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
And I’m so glad we didn’t.
The crowd was amazing…cheering and hooting for him right from his intro.
And he talked about his stopover in Montreal and his rental car upgrade kindness from Tina and said Canadians were living up to our reputation for niceness. *heart explodes*
In fact, when he mentioned he’d had poutine, the whole place exploded in cheers, which made him crinkly-nose laugh. And when that happens 256764357 angels get their wings.
And he blew everyone away with Christmas songs to the point that even Desmond applauded for him after First Noel.
His voice was so rich and, well, glorious, it took my breath away in spots.
He got emotional a few times, talking about the birth of Jesus and how Mary must’ve felt watching her son grow into the man became.
I tried to take a video of Mary Did You Know but security stopped me. Drats. So I will upload some audio-only vids I took clandestinely.
When he sat down at the piano to do a Gordon Lightfoot song, I almost lost it.
It’s now become a David trademark to learn a brand new song for a brand new country. What a sweet, generous, thoughtful thing to do. 😍😍
He stumbled over some of the words but no matter, everyone cheered him on and was really touched at the gesture. And his voice and the piano and his voice and oh my word his voice.
He was truly surprised at the end at the whole hat ceremony. It brought the house down. And he will fit right in back in Nashville. Loved it.
Fave part: “Remember, the label on the hat is like the label on your underwear. It goes at the back.”

And I t’s the first show I’ve been to with Canadian fan-friends only… Awestruck, Ref, Peppertara, Pastel and other friends. 🇨🇦😘❤️

Ditto to all you said! What a great concert, and he said he is coming back! I think he really likes Canada. I have to add that his Insta-stories are all kinds of awesome! They are funny, endearing and challenge me to be a better person. Oh the latest one about growing scruff, why he doesn’t take off his shirt for fans and talking about growing scruff vs a beard gave me such a laugh!
Stumbles and all, that Winter’s Night is beautiful! Hope to hear him do it again sometime.
Oh Deb, thanks for the lovely recap in the midst of your travels, verklempt is a good word. I am the same way myself. Last night was incredible, extra glorious, extra rich,, extra fantastic. Maybe it’s partly because he was on Cdn turf giving us this amazing concert….but it’s one that I am still immersed in. What an experience!
Been watching the wonderful ‘Ninja’ videos, etc from last night and reliving some of those wonderful moments. I wouldn’t have missed this concert for anything either!
It was so good hanging out with y’all (as David would say). TOfan, Refnaf, Awestruck, Pastel and I may be leaving someone out but had such a great time! Connecting with some I’ve met before and some for the first time, thanks, it was terrific.
Biggest thanks to David for coming to Canada and doing a beautiful Christmas show. I will never forget the experience and it definitely made my Holiday season extra special! So glad he received the accolades he deserves….. there was just so much love all around. ❤
Thanks Tofan and all the Canadian fans for bringing the Calgary concert to the rest of us. David sounded amazing and was his usual precious self. I loved the hat ceremony. His facial expressions are priceless !!!
