David Archuleta drummer boi

k, I know this song was released last Christmas on the Dapo & Friends Christmas Volume 1 album (still available for free download at dapoandfriendschristmas.com btw) but I never really listened to it until now (I blame PASD… post-Announcement Stress Disorder).

And I literally had it on repeat for my entire commute home from work the other day and then I kept listening to it again today… it had me in some kind of trance or something.

I don’t know if it was D’s hypnotic lower register or the mesmerizing arrangement with the underlying percussion track but I’m still hooked on it, which is cool because since I missed out on listening to it last year, it’s like discovering a new song.

Even the way David sings it is different from the way he usually delivers Christmas songs … and so much different than his live MKOC tour version, which I also love.

It’s so laid back and soulful …. like he’s singing to himself with his eyes closed remembering Christmases past or something (if that makes any sense at all).

It’s a carol I’ve always loved even BD (before David)… the story of a poor young boy with no gift to give but his music … “then, he smiled at me, parumpapumpum….

Anyway… how about you guys … any songs you’ve “rediscovered” lately, Christmas or otherwise?

Thanks so much for this. I had listened to it only a little last year and this year I was wondering why I didn’t own it and where to find it again. In some ways its my favorite David song ever. I know I say that about almost every song at some point but the texture of his voice and the way he plays with the melody in such an unassuming but kinda devastating way combine to slay me.

I’m going back for many more listens. Like, right now.

SISTAH, I’m totally onboard with you! This “Dapo” version was like ear crack for me last year. I remember tweeting for an intervention! LOL There is something about that ending (starting at 3:05 in the video) where he begins singing all those runs “Ohhhhhhh….yeaahhhh….yeaaahhh” and he has that little “achy crack” in his voice when he sings the “Oh” in “Meeeee and myyyy druuumm…” with Dapo’s voice intertwining with his. G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!

GAH!!! Now you’ve got me hooked all over again!!!

P.S. If you decide I really AM in need of an intervention, could you please schedule it in JANUARY. Thanx.

This song is my crack toooooo…. I only really listened to it lately (PASD… post-Announcement Stress Disorder) as well……………. two words >THE VOICE< EEEEEEEEEEE
    I adore it.

hmmm, I wonder if after all that trouble, did the station actually play any of his songs?? 😯

tofan, I can attest to your claim of PASD, and a bad case indeed. When this Drummer Boy came out I fell in love with it, and I remember thinking it would be your cup of tea….and I was then surprised at your lack of flailing, lol! So happy you stumbled upon it, it is too good to not be savored!

mandaberry, “the texture of his voice and the way he plays with the melody in such an unassuming but kinda devastating way combine to slay me.”….I am 100 percent with you here. In fact, I want to repeat it in capital letters with a hundred exclamation points behind it, but that would be screaming and that would be rude, so I digress. Another example of his diversity and musicality.

jonerz, “This “Dapo” version was like ear crack for me”….I’ve been addicted since I first heard it too, played it the entire year. It is sweeeeeet!!

I’d like to pretend that I just said all this same stuff. Because it’s exactly what I’d write if I had your brain, Emme. 🙂
I just got home from work and am too tired to come up with anything original, just this:
      What she said.

    Well, you asked TOfan –
Been listening to this (picked this particular one because I love the audience!)

and this, the album version (the humming in the beginning, the background vocals throughout. And to think I wasn’t so sure about the whistling in the beginning. Stoopid!)

and this, (one of my alltime favorite D performances, this just rocks!)

    and this ♥ (amazing)

omigosh emme, could not agree more on GGTT and EWTRTW (and those particular versions too)… I was just listening to those today and hoping David records them someday… and thanks for that Angels, Newcastle, I don’t think I’ve seen that since the McFly tour! And YEDL “and to think I wasn’t so sure about the whistling in the beginning. Stoopid!” hahaha *guilty* 😆

Thanks Tofan for showcasing Drummer Boi. It is always such a thrill!!!! when David puts all aside and goes with the music and leaves self as well as the fans aside. In my opinion, it is when he is playing with the music, the lyrics and interpreting the song that we get the genius performances. Again in my opinion David will soar when he is finally free to express and play.

Many of the great voices we still here today are those who were able to reach audiences and connect with them and reflect upon the times that we live in. I have much hope for David’s future.

He brings us sweetness, appeals to the best in ourselves and saves us in our most desperate times. Who does that? I am stll here with you as I suspect are many others.

Comolaflor, I was talking to my sons girlfriend on the phone earlier today trying to explain this David thing. I almost felt embarrassed saying this young man has taught me so many things. Then I realized there really is nothing to be ashamed of as he does “bring us sweetness, appeal to the best in ourselves and saves us in our most desperate times.” Very well said!
I’m still here too. Can’t imagine being anywhere else!

    • TOfan says:

      comolaflor and angelofdja, so glad to hear you’re both still here! sometimes it is hard to know, lol … “He brings us sweetness, appeals to the best in ourselves and saves us in our most desperate times. Who does that?” … Who does that, indeed… he’s remarkable, that’s all there is to it, lol… and kudos to you, angelofdja, for trying to explain all this 🙂 I’ve found it’s almost impossible to put into words to “outsiders,” maybe you either “get” it or you don’t… I’m SO glad we all do! {{{{♥group hug♥}}}}

Happy Sunday everyone! Jhen, that’s great news! Thanks Kalei for all your wofurendl posts! I just love that How Great Thou Art. Listen to it whenever I need to calm down! David’s voice is the most soothing sound ever!
