The trials and tribulations of the remote fan: Jonerz’ story

Photo edit: Shelley

I don’t know who this Gladys person is but if I met her in person right now I would glomp onto her and give her the biggest “Archu-Squishes” imaginable. Look out Gladys … I’m coming for you!!!

I was in Indy over the weekend for a get-together with some fan friends. I decided not to bring my laptop. I thought I could use a break. I’m not gonna lie, lately I’ve been feeling a little bit glum about our fan futures. Since BEGIN. dropped I’ve felt there has been a new level of detachment from David and his previous “life”.  I’m not judging him, he is entitled to whatever he needs to do during this phase of his existence, I guess I was just trying to figure out what I needed to do during this next phase of MY existence and I decided to venture out into the world of “disconnection.”

I think my weekend fan friends would tell you I’m a realist. We had many heartfelt conversations about what to expect from David in the future. In my “realistic” frame of mind, I shared my thoughts that he may be quite different when he returns. He may choose to dial it down several notches and bypass the whole mainstream music scene.

Maybe, when he reflected back on his previous life, he would decide that the pressures of the industry were not for him, and that people trying to mold him into someone he’s not comfortable with, or fans dissecting every move he made in his life, had finally gotten to the point that he felt comfortable with saying ADIOS!

Maybe he was enjoying his less complicated lifestyle with no focus on what he was saying, doing, wearing or worries about how to make upcoming tours and appearances worthwhile and entertaining was very “freeing” to him.  Maybe he decided that this whole performing thing was overrated and NOT for him.

Enter Gladys.

So here I was in my Indy hotel room at 1:30 in the morning, just about ready to retire, when I decided to check twitter on my phone. Suddenly I’m seeing random tweets about turquoise ties and white hats and boxing.  WUT??????  *twitch*  *heart palpitations* *sweaty palms*

I was FREAKING OUT!!!  GAH!!!!  OMG!!!!  What’s happening, what’s happening!!!????  (You STUPID fan for not bringing your laptop!!!)  My cellphone battery was getting low. No….NOOOOOO!!!!  I was BESIDE MYSELF!! I needed to call in the reserves!!!  I sprung into action. I sent out a frantic plea to one of my dependable followers in the Twitter DM underground, “Scooopp me!!!! What happened tonight??!!!!”

Now it starts to get funny.

When I informed my beloved fellow fan that I didn’t have my computer, her response was total disbelief: “YOU’RE TRAVELING WITHOUT YOUR LAPTOP!!!!!????,” like I was someone with ASTHMA traveling without my inhaler!!  LOL

….and then…the beloved fan phone call…

—“Eye of the TIGER???”  Seriously???  He’s KICKBOXING AND PUNCHING??  Am I in an alternate universe???

…and he is down on his knee with a WHITE hat on?! (David…no worries…you don’t have to wear white…they SURRENDERED the minute the first note FLEW out of your mouth!!) … then FLIPS it out into the audience?!?!?!?!!?  WUT???!!!!????  GETOUTOFTOWN!!!!!  NOOOOO!!!!!

FREAKING OUUTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

OMG!!!

I’m going to be totally honest with you. This is the first night in 6 months that I went to  sleep with a smile on my face. The first time in a while that I’ve felt optimism and hope.  It was an indescribable, happy feeling…

..and a connection to all of those that “understood” what I was going through….

It was a WONDERFUL night…

…brought to all of us….by DAVID

and his devoted and beloved fans.

THANK YOU, GLADYS <3333

Awww…thanks! It was soooo funny, by the time I got off the phone with my fanfriend it was 3:00 am. I was in the other room trying not to make any noise so as not to wake up my room mate. I said softly, “Are you awake?” and she’s like, “YES I’M STILL AWAKE!!! TELL ME WHAT’S GOING ONNNNN!!!!”

LOLZ David fans….gotta love em. 🙂

  3. Hugs Jonerz!! He loves Entertaining and yes Gladys, Giselle and others were witness. Just what the Dr. ordered!! 🙂

I totally felt what you felt, Jonerz! To hear about him breaking out and performing in such a quirky, free way just made my life so much better.
BTW, I miss you like crazy when you aren’t on twitter. I don’t say it often enough but you’re important to me! (Awwww).
I, too, have felt disconnected. Not so much because of what I thought David would do–he said he’d be back to us and David does not lie. But my fan-heart still feels very bruised by the whole morality police thing. How can it be bad for David to have me know about this public performance that he made when just reading about it lifted my spirits

    • refnaf says:

lol, Bianca, I agree…. This was a performance> and sharing in the joy of it can only be good……….. totally different IMO that seeking info on what David is doing as he works one on one with people in Chile. I say let’s celebrate it!!! eeeeeeeeee Eye of the Tiger , baby!!!

    • JONERZ says:

      “lifted my spirits”….exactly, and you just lifted mine again with your sweet comment. Thank you my friend {{{hugs}}}

    Jonerz

Gladys is a fan from Argentina who has been a fan from day 1 ” Feb 2008″ as she loves to tell us. She is a regular at The Voice and comes weekly to our chats. She speaks only Spanish, but since becoming a fan, has signed up for English classes and is now studying law in her country. She uses Google translator to communicate with us and she is the funniest lady I know 🙂 She has been both of the concerts in Chile, which is a miracle because there was no way, until David went on his mission, that she had hopes of seeing him perform live. Miracles do happen. She is grateful and is pleased to share her experiences with the entire fan base.

Gladys is a sweet, generous person.

Awwww….Gladys sounds like a very special lady! Make sure she knows how all the fans appreciate her sharing her experience with us and send her my cyber *squishes*. (You may have to explain that to her…I don’t know if Google would translate that very well! LOL)

      • TOfan says:

add my cyber *squishes* for Gladys!!! just wish it could be more … like, I dunno, maybe an early Christmas gift *cough*recordingdevice*cough*… KIDDINGGG!!!!!! … thanks so much for sharing this Jonerz, totally made my day!!!! <33333

Too funny and exactly how I feel> A group glomp For Gladys!!! Amen Abbs, to Gladys being a “sweet, generous person”, makes me so happy she had this opportunity to hear and see him.

The fact that we have this info via someone who was there who loves him makes it just so sweet…. and I am overjoyed that he seemed to be totally “into” performing……. #DA2014

Hello, I’m Gladys from Argentina, and I’m amazed by all the love and respect I feel for all of you. I’m returning the favor to all the fans who took videos of David at his concerts. I am returning favors for four years of videos.
I have to give thanks for these wonderful four years and I hope there will be many more to come.
I will see david in Christmas again, maybe there david songs in Spanish, ahhh I’m impatient.

  11. peppertara says:

Loved reading your write up Jonerz! Keep smiling, have a feeling David has lots of good things in store for his fans when he returns. He’s a one man variety show, haha, ultimate entertainer who’s always been full of surprises (this past weekend was a real surprise)!
Very grateful to Gladys, think everyone would love to give her a big hug, so happy for her too! It always puts a smile on my face when a fan has the opportunity to see David perform live, one way or another. Puts a smile in my heart too, as do write ups like this one. 🙂

  12. peppertara says:

Gladys…{{{hugs}}} for you! How wonderful, you will get to see David at Christmas time too.
I’m sure he will sing some songs in Spanish. ❤

  13. bebereader says:

Jonerz, Glad you’re back! Been missing you around these parts. I’ve been a big fan of your tweets and comments. See? You have fans too. <33

  14. Kizzi says:

Oh good golly, ms jonerz! Yes to everything. I just checked into the Archu-Cyber world today.

And Gladys sharing with everyone is so awesome! Fans are so beautifully giving. Thank you so very much Gladys. It was a divine treat to experience through your ears and eyes.

I’ve been away from the fan sites for a while. I actually am enjoying the hiatus on many levels. And, like everyone, I deeply miss the music, the art and the camaraderie of fellow fans. They just exist in different levels for now.

Every time I listen to or see new musical performances regardless of the artist, I have a richer, deeper appreciation of music and art thanks to this David-fan journey. Whatever David determines upon his return, I will whole heartedly embrace, even if it is less in the public eye and more inner focused. Godspeed to him and to all of you here at SAz.

  15. TOfan says:

    Off-topic excitement, lol:
Sounds like we might get the Rainbow remix MV this weekend or next week! *cartwheels* … and it turns out the idea for the remix came from, well, who else? 😆

    Rainbow remix

  16. angelofdja says:

Hey Jonerz! Good to “see” you!
I too was feeling the blues and trying to occupy my energies with car travel and less cyber travel. The restlessness most certainly had something to do with missing David. I love how you put to words EXACTLY what I was feeling. Thanks for sharing your heart with us!
TOfan, WOOT! that’s great news. David really liked Rainbow (me too!) I can’t wait to see what he came up with!

  17. Patty-Ann says:

Loved this Jonerz and hearing about David’s concert in Chile made me very happy too! I am so glad that Giselle and Gladys got to meet him and witness this side of David for us. Gonna quote Miss Bianca cuz I totally agree with what she said: ” But my fan-heart still feels very bruised by the whole morality police thing. How can it be bad for David to have me know about this public performance that he made when just reading about it lifted my spirits”. Hearing in detail about this concert lifted mine too.

  18. dangitdavid says:

Can I tell you how much I loved reading this post!!! Jonerz….I felt so many emotions in this one little story but I get it!! I was laughing so hard at your spazzing…..the caps, the excitement, the Twitter DM underground!!! ROTFL!! You are hilarious..lmao. You just said what many of us are probably feeling but not willing to say out loud. I’ve always said that I know David will be back to music…’cause he said so and I trust the Archuleta but deep down there was always this little feeling of wondering at just what level will he back…can be a scary thought if you let your mind go down that road too far!! I had so much fun on Saturday night talking with everyone as Gladys was filling us in on what went down at the concert!! LOVE THAT GIRL!! What an experience for her…as Abrra said, this is her miracle of seeing David live and she’s so willing to share it with us 😀 I loved that we were able to go all gahhhhhh over a concert that we couldn’t “see” or “hear” but were still able to enjoy bc we know what this man can do!! And I’m grateful to whatever powers that may be that have control over him right now that they allow him to do what he loves so much once in a while, while still putting his heart and soul into his mission….I do believe they also know what a gift they have in him and they can use it to they’re advantage. Just would be nice to throw us a picture or two and maybe a video or five or six…..I want to see the dang Eye of the Tiger lol. 😉

  19. suzzyy says:

HILARIOUS…wonderful write-up! 😀 Jonerz, you have a great sense of humor and a talent for writing! Thanks for sharing…you’ve truly lifted my spirits! I can so relate to what you’re saying:

“I needed to call in the reserves!!! I sprung into action. I sent out a frantic plea to one of my dependable followers in the Twitter DM underground, “Scooopp me!!!! What happened tonight??!!!!””

Also…so happy Gladys is a great fan and willing to share details with us…can’t thank her enough! 🙂

  20. Spirit says:

Jonerz…..Wanted to say how much I enjoyed your fantastic post. Following David’s journey has been a wonderful adventure. Just when we think we’ve seen it all, he pulls more goodies out of his bag and amazes us anew! I can’t even imagine what he’ll have in store for us in 2014!

I was surprised that you mentioned meeting with David fans in Indy. I live in the area and didn’t think that there were any other fans here. Glad to know that it’s not a desert in the David Fandom after all!

  21. jackryan4da says:

Jonerzz – was laughing all the way. Love! Love! Love!

  22. jackryan4da says:

    But then I wonder…

“…I’m going to be totally honest with you. This is the first night in 6 months that I went to sleep with a smile on my face…”

…just how many Archies is this a truism? s.i.g.h.

  23. Anonymous says:

This put a smile on my face too. :))) Thank you
