I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind

I had all these things I was going to say, I’m sure I did. Something about finally getting what people mean when they say a certain song reminds them of why they first became a David Archuleta fan. Was that it? I’m not sure. The only thing I’m sure of is I need to rush back and listen to this song again.

Believe it or not, I don’t feel that way about all of David’s songs. Some I even *gasp* skip over. *cough*SBL*cough* But then there are killers like this one. Yes, killers … pure grab-you-in-the-gut-and-keep-twisting devastation.

I’m not sure what makes them so lethal. To be honest, I don’t really want to overanalyze it. Takes away the magic somehow. And magic they are. This one certainly is. Makes you stop whatever you’re doing and get pulled right inside it.

And it’s not because his voice sounds pretty on it… lots of singers have very pleasant-sounding voices. It’s because of how it makes you feel. Filled with joy, sorrow, longing. But mostly, alive. But you guys know all that only too well.

And, frankly, it sounded as though David was struggling a little on some of the other songs in the show (probably because of the dehydrating long trip and time change), but it seemed to make this one even more poignant.

When David tells interviewers he wants to find his “sound” I can’t help but think he was born with his sound, this sound. This soulful sound.

I need to go back and listen a.g.a.i.n. Does that make me crazy? Probably.

P.S. Here’s an mp3 from the lovely jenleighbarry in case you’re crazy for Crazy too. 🙂

P.P.S. VORTEX ALEEERRRRTTT!!!!! HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL!!!!! THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS is what I’m talkin’ aboutttt!!!!!!! Have been waiting for this WFM vid, looooove this!!!!!!

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind…….yep, was about 3 1/2 years ago when I could not stop listening to or keeping up with that young, soulful teen named David Archuleta. At the time really thought I had lost my mind, lol. Of course, soon discovered that a lot of others had done the same thing, haha….no matter what your age it seemed.
Love, love “Crazy”. One of the best covers David has done, IMO. Anything that showcases his gorgeous, natural soulful sound is just beyond fantastic and yes…..he was born with that sound!
That sound that makes you feel and love what you are feeling. Love that video!

“It’s because of how it makes you feel. Filled with joy, sorrow, longing. But mostly, alive.” Bingo!!!

So many lovely Crazy-s to pick from:

    Enhanced from July 14, 2008, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boBSqioVXbw

    Idol Viewing Party 2011, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDsyzxUbMA4

And my personal favorite, Malaysia soundcheck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVn7MWGnc7s

I’ve been searching for the video when, during an Idol after-party, someone asks David to sing Crazy and he responds with something like, “you really want to hear that? I haven’t played that in a long time” I believe he played it the next day on My Fox Utah. My recollection is that he was unaware that we had been dying to hear him sing it since Hollywood Week, but once he was asked, he quickly obliged.

    *thank goodness*

thanks, J., so many great Crazys… but this one stands out for me for some reason … I do hope we get to hear the Idol version someday!!

Ahhhh… been hoping for that one too! WFM is one of my all time faves of David’s, another great added to the list of videos. In spite of David’s small amount of struggle with his voice, he still manages to top everyone else at their best it seems. He simply does, he just knows how to deliver a song and tell the story. To think that he put in a long 17 or 18 song set after an extremely long plane ride and sleep interference….he’s a pro! Yes, Holy Mother of Pearl, Diamonds and Sapphires…way to go David!
