So many people had been requesting this on David’s earlier cover posts, that I looked it up on YouTube maybe an hour before he posted this cover. Whoah. Spooky. The video is really powerful but not as powerful as David’s rendition (sorry, Calum, you are awesome, though).

Confession: Not a Ben Platt fan. *ducks tomatoes* … please don’t get me wrong, he’s unquestionably talented, but I find his phrasing of songs distracting to the point where the emotion doesn’t hit me. David’s hit me like a tsunami… soooooo beautiful and moving and real… not mannered or overly theatrical at all. I wanted to scream back, “OF COURSE I AM WAVING BACK AT YOU, DAVID!!!!”

I listened to this one, and read David’s caption right when I was having trouble seeing a “Master Plan” that made any sense to me… I took it as a sign… that we are loved… we all matter… we’re not alone… and there are moments of grace and beauty even in our darkest hour… so five overflowing buckets of tears on this one.

Another confession: Billie Eilish frightens me a little. But retitle this cover “Heart Eyes” BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! Sooooo glad David’s switched to the IGTV thing and we get whole songs… really wish we had all of this one!

I know I’m making of light of all this, somewhat, but I don’t want to downplay how much these incredible covers, posted one after the other, right at this time, have meant to me… they are lifting and saving my life in a very real way and I can’t adequately express what that’s meant to me… I’m sure they’re doing the same for thousands of other people out there for a bunch of reasons… and it’s yet another reminder to me of how blessed we are to be fans of this remarkable human. For years I’ve wanted David to be a you-tube star like his friend Peter Hollens, who does bi-monthly music videos of cover songs. I’m so thankful for IGTV which David has now embraced to do covers easily. I was so surprised when he did covers three days in a row and said he loved singing them. It’s so great and I’m so glad that it helped you Deb, and I’m sure many others.
GrammyJ, you are so right! I know a lot of us have watched other artists (like Tori Kelly) build a following by doing YouTube covers and wondered why David didn’t do the same.
He seems to feel more comfortable doing it on Instagram so 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼… he has the perfect gift to share on social media so I’m not surprised he’s getting so many views and comments… as I like to say, give the people what they want! 😍

David’s covers are so good, extremely good….exceptionally good! Really loved them all, the last one he did is still resonating with me, probably because it’s the last one I listened to. All so good though and so beautifully sung. Whenever he posts a song, a cover, the “likes” go way up…..hmmm…..wonder why. 🙂
