How much do I love the new album? Let me count the ways!

Screen Shot 2017-10-20 at 12.02.19 AM.png.

I had planned to post about the whole Postcards in the Sky album but I might spend this whole thing raving about the title track, THAT’S HOW MUCH I LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!

And I didn’t expect to from the snippet…shows how misleading snippets can be. πŸ™‚

Oh my oh my oh my, it just takes me places… with just the right amount of edge and driving beat counterbalanced with the sweetness of David’s voice to K.I.L.L..M.E.E.E.

I haven’t had this strong of an instant reaction to any of his songs since MH on the little red album… I’m going to go out on a limb and say I think it’s one of the best songs he’s ever released… it needs to be on radio, likeΒ NOW!!! Can’t you just hear it???

Don’t get me wrong, I am loving the whole album. πŸ™‚

Upset With Me breaks my heart a little because I think we all know who it’s about. “But you can’t keep hurting me… I need to keep me safe from you”??? Oh David. <33333456789 Beautiful in it’s heart-wrenching simplicity. It’s clearly something he needed get out. To make it real. To start to heal. “I’m taking back what’s mine… I don’t have to give you my life.” #whoah

Waiting in the Stars is empowering, energizing, anthem-y, love the driving beat of it. I can almost hear Kelly Clarkson covering it. The bridge (as always) KILLS.

Seasons is just beautiful. I’m a sucker for harmonies, and with David doing harmony, it’s like there are four parts not two. The soft parts of his voice tho’ *melts*.

I’m thinking Cracks of Heaven might be about Annie Schmidt? I think this one’s really going to grow on me.

For Shine a Light, I may have pumped my fist in the air. Okay, yes, I definitely did. There was at least one witness. Love the soulfulness. And the message, of course.

Okay, a package of Kleenex needs to come with the physical CD for Aiming for Hope alone. Instant tears. And the room I was listening to it in for the first time HAD NO TISSUES!!!!! I’m a little too not over it.

A Little Goes a Long Way has a Nashville feel, don’t you think? Love the driving beat and the lyrics. And his layered vocals in the background, I hear something new every time.

What I love most about this album is all the unexpected places David takes his voice. I mean, come on, we’ve been listening to this dude sing since 2008 AND HE IS STILL PULLING SURPRISES OUT OF HIS SLEEVES! Who does that?? David Archuleta that’s who.

And every song gives us glimpses of what David’s gone through, how he’s been feeling and what matters most to him… so much of his heart and soul in these songs… there’s just so much to them… not the disposable “listen today, forget tomorrow” tunes but songs that will last and stand the test of time. Gems. Every one.

I’m still loving all the Leo and Orion songs, so I’m kind of feeling overwhelmed… in a good way… right now. Like 10 Christmases all happened on one day.

How about you guys, what do you think???

Postcards In The Sky (have to spell the complete title because PITS just doesn’t cut it right now)!!
This album is gorgeous. Yes, I teared up on a few songs too. Have to say that Aiming for Hope is just beautiful…and those vocals, wow, just wow. Each new song is unique, moving and so good, honestly. Love the title track too, a lot! All these great songs combined with the Leo and Orion songs make for one remarkable album. So much sensitivity, hope, inspiration, honesty. A GEM of an album. Kudos to David for being so real, vulnerable and just being himself.
Still listening, will be on repeat for sometime.
I agree, the places David takes his remarkable voice always amazes me, he is just such a natural.
Thanks for the great review. Suffice it to say, I can’t help but love this entire album.

  2. TaterZen says:

Whew! I am totally spent from celebrating David Archuleta Week.

This music! Every song. I can’t think right now. After all the interviews in Manila where he put his whole heart right out there on his sleeve, and now this album! Postcards in the Sky… Well, I need a giant bag of superlatives and another box of Kleenex.

    • Oliveoil says:

This album is soooooo good !!! I’ll be listening to it forever. I am so proud of David .

      • Grammyj says:

Me too!! I remember back in the day when there were fan discussions where people wondered whether David could write great songs of if he should just sing covers. This album clearly shows the David CAN write beautiful heartfelt songs. Bravo David! This album was worth the wait!

        • TOfan says:

I remember those discussions, Grammyj… yes, he’s sure showing all those naysayers what a true artist he is!

          • Grammyj says:

I wish they could see him now, but as one fan said “phooey on them.” They are the ones missing out. I’m glad I stuck around for this.

  3. refnaf says:

Oh my heck…. EVERY SONG IS EVEN MORE THAN I HOPED FOR!
I’m stunned by the beauty honesty love and inspiration that he is sharing! AND WHAT HE CAN DO WITH HIS VOICE!

added a beautiful vid of Nandito Ako to the end of the post… he’s so overcome with emotion, it just about does me in….

  5. Moelita says:

Postcards in the Sky, Upset with Me, and Aiming for Hope are simply beautiful. David’s voice, the lyrics, the production, his voice, the humming, his voice are beyond gorgeous. Just an absolutely beautiful album.

  6. tawna21 says:

Thank you for all of this….. I’m speechless. The concert must have been totally amazing, and the album is beyond amazing!!!!

  7. Pepper says:

What an incredible time for David and his fans. The Pinoy fans are awesome! Nandito Ako just about did me in too, yep…grab the kleenex. So much love and this new album is so unique, beautiful and heartfelt. What a perfect time to be grateful in the world of being a David Archuleta fan.

Thanks for the wonderful updates TOfan and what a great weekend for fans to absorb and enjoy the new music along with all the videos, etc. πŸ™‚

  8. Grammyj says:

I believe it’s a tribute to how good the album is that fans pick different songs for their favorite one. There is no consensus on the best one because they are all good. I haven’t seen anyone pick “A Little Goes a Long Way” so I thought that might not be as good. Boy was I wrong. That might be my pick for the best one. I love the beat, production and catchy lyrics. Truly the whole album is fantastic.

I’ve been loving all the videos from the concert. Filipinos certainly give David the love and treat him like a star. Oh, the screams and their beautiful singing. David was truly touched. I’m so happy for him. He deserves the accolades. Now he deserves some rest and then it’s on to the U.S. Tour.

  9. Pepper says:

Love “A Little Goes A Long Way” too! What a great song. Haven’t focused on one particular fave at this point, so many good songs that I am still absorbing. Yes, David does deserve the accolades and hope he has some time for rest now before he stars the rest of his U.S. tour.

  10. TOfan says:

you guys are right… it’s cool to see so many different favourites people are naming, SO many good songs on this album

And recommend watching this till the end… so fun to see his reaction to the crowd.. and that ending, WOWZA! Rainbow was my fave on that album so πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    dude was on FIYAH!!!!

  11. janey79 says:

remember the idol forum days? what i wouldn’t give for an appreciation thread for each PITS song!

    • Grammyj says:

Yes those were the days!! Would love to have many express appreciation for each song on Postcards. I’m just glad that I’m still here appreciating this album!

    • TOfan says:

Do you have a fave, J.?

      • janey79 says:

good question, TOfan! i have only listened once and need to make a copy then take a nice long drive and really listen. what i can say is that upset with me shattered my heart into a million pieces at first listen so in terms of response that is currently holding the numero uno spot. oh, were you asking grammy j or janey j? lol

        • Grammyj says:

My real name is Jayne, but I do think she wanted your favorite, Janey. It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite since they are all good. I truly underestimated what David could do in song writing

          • TOfan says:

so THAT’s what the “J” stands for! Cool! (And I love hearing what everyone’s fave’s are, tbh… understanding that those could be totally different next week, or even tomorrow, lol)

    • missbianca says:

Just today I was lamenting the demise of forums. I don’t feel you can get to know folks the same way on blogs or Facebook. Twitter used to be good, but they wanted to be Facebook instead. Chat rooms were good–I’m not really sure why nobody seems to have one any more. But forums were the best: you could contribute at your own pace and they had enough flexibility for many simultaneous discussions. The biggest problem is that there’s too many social media sites today and somehow we’re all supposed to be on all of them.

Okay, rant over. I would be happy to do the tech side of a forum, if anyone wants to moderate and of course participate.

I have not listened to Rainbows in the Sky yet. I feel the need to be with a fellow fan or fans when I do, to give reactions like Deb did above but more spontaneous. This is a plea for help (seriously). Help?

      • missbianca says:

Zipping through here and cannot believe my fingers typed “Rainbows in the Sky.” I know it’s Postcards, I do, I do. And I’ve listened to 2 of the songs off of it which weren’t on Leo or Orion. Sort of.

  12. Poof says:

Sitting on a rainy Saturday afternoon blowing my nose and catching my breath. My poor little heart couldn’t take one more song. This CD has taken him way beyond what he has done in the past and certainly more than most artists can and do give us.
To call Upset with Me a favorite is totally the wrong word. I don’t think I have ever heard anything before that moved me as this did. Crystal clear raw lyrics in a beautiful melody. So brave of him to put himself out there like he has in this song.
Also loved Postcards in the Sky and Aiming For Hope. Both required kleenex.
Love the whole CD.. What a wonderful, thoughtful treasure.

    • Grammyj says:

I also cried when listening to “Cracks in Heaven”. Oh my, the lyrics for that one!

      • TOfan says:

“To call Upset with Me a favorite is totally the wrong word.” … same, Poof… it’s in a category all by itself… just, wow.

FINALLY! Alone time to listen to and absorb this new album. And it totally surpassed any expectation! As a whole lyrically and the musicality, I feel, his best yet. Beautiful and brilliant! His voice, nuances, what he can do that few others can, never ceases to amaze!
Postcards in The Sky ( totally with you Pepper on the PITS), A Little Goes A Long Way, Aiming For Hope, Shine A Light, and loooove the lyrics in Cracks Of Heaven.
No clunkers here. The entire album, yes, a treasure.

    • TOfan says:

emme, I know what you mean by needing alone time to truly appreciate this album… there’s just so much goodness here to take in on so many levels…

  15. TOfan says:

Yesterday we went with our friends at Holt Philippines (Holt International) to visit the different foundations they work with, including (going in order of the pictures other than the 1st one) a home for single pregnant mothers that are alone, orphans that they've helped receive scholarships and support, a community school for little kids, and families that have benefited from the schools. As we've been partnering with Holt in our shows, it was amazing and touching to see more hands-on what they do for kids from the beginning of their lives to adulthood. I also got my first tricycle ride with one of the dads of the families we met. The first picture is with my new friend Rafa who rode with us and was sad when we had to leave 😒. He was adopted by one of the staff members that was with us. Holt finds homes for orphans but also prevents that need by strengthening homes and communities. I really hope to adopt a kid someday when I have my own family. Until then I hope to help however I can. Saturday we met with many from the Nandito Ako family! (The mini-series we filmed last time we were here) As we leave the Philippines, I reflect on all these great new memories I'm taking home. The last photo is with some of the Ovation Production crew who took such wonderful care of us! Salamat Philippines!! Until next time! Wow great photos and love the story cover of David visiting the kids, so sweet…well of course he would, he is such a good guy. Still catching up on so much from the Philippines! What a great time, not to mention loving that bold, brilliant and beautiful new album. Still leaves me in awe.
By the way, for Cdn fans, you can now order the album from Amazon Canada! Or maybe that was already mentioned, not sure. Well, you can pre order, not in stock yet but will be coming, yay!
Of course I ordered multiple copies….already planning some Christmas gifts. πŸ™‚

  18. Pepper says:

That was a really beautiful duet on You Are My song, they sure did a beautiful job of putting that together quickly.
If anyone is seeing David in concert this week or travelling to see him, have a fabulous time!
Somehow I have no doubt that you will. πŸ™‚

  19. Oliveoil says:

Hi everyone !!! I am just overwhelmed by watching David in Manila and all the love between him and his fans. I really believe that God orchestrated the release of his album for just this time. It was like a huge celestial hug. This music means so much to David and he so appreciated the love and support of his fans. It can’t be an easy thing putting yourself out there like this. But David has true faith that the Lord is with him. That’s what gives him the strength and hope to keep going. He is a beautiful human being .

  20. Pepper says:

True Oliveoil……It is overwhelming in a beautiful way, as is David’s new album. Yes, it was wonderful to see the love and appreciation between David and his Filipino fans. What a great and memorable time for all. “A huge celestial hug” is a great description!

  21. Oliveoil says:

Can’t wait to hear about tonight’s show !!! Hoping for pictures and videos. Have a great time all of you who will be there!!

  22. janey79 says:

    leo tour ftwiiiiin

  23. Poof says:

Have loved David’s new music. So beautiful and such powerful messages for those needing them.
But……. this week I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with financial issues and a loved one who is definitely not acting loving. It occurred to me that maybe David’s messages are for me too. Maybe they are really for all of us because we all sometimes need “a ray of hope” wrapped up in gorgeous voice.

  24. refnaf says:

    Hey peeps!!!

Upset With Me makes me – who? who? who hurt you? Of course we can guess who… But Say Me just guts me…

But it is for a different reason. Different context. But the notes on those two words… just gaaahhhh!
