On my way home last night — listening to mp3s from @Jonerz’ amazing Myrtle Beach videos — it struck me that most of the David Archuleta songs I listen to on my iPod are from his live shows.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the studio recordings too, but I’m willing to put up with a few screams* and static to get that extra jolt of passion and asdlfkdjfkadfjla; that David puts into every live performance. I think one of the reasons I love the MoTab CD so much is that it’s really the only professionally recorded live show of his that we have … so far. 🙂
But some fans have told me they may watch live videos but almost never listen to his live stuff on their iPods… it’s studio-recorded or nothing for them.
So I’m curious… what’s your preference? … And why? Please share! 🙂
*Confession: I sometimes actually love hearing the screaming and chanting before he comes on stage or the “I LOOOVE YOU, DAVID!” screeches… esp. from guys, lol … and knowing that the “Go, David!” shoutout in this vid is someone I know! *cough*thelovelybetsy*cough*
P.S. I just HAD to post this (source/Tumblr) 😆 😆 😆
David always adds a little “sumthin sumthin” extra to his live performances that takes his music up several notches! I also love to hear the enthusiasm from the crowd. Much of the screaming on my Mrytle Beach videos was compliments of @Janey79. That lady has a set of lungs! LOLz I would have joined in but I was trying like crazy to hold my video camera steady which, considering David’s awesomeness at that concert, was no easy feat! 🙂
Thanks Joner for that recording and Janey for added your voice. I had wanted to be at that Concert so badly and so appreciated the Recordings 🙂
Tbh, I can never understand fans who comment that they want a studio recording of a particular song. To me, there is no comparison, hands down, David’s live performances win. There are a number of artists who offer DVDs of their concerts, perhaps David will consider that in the future. How nice would that be? Fans could thoroughly enjoy the concert knowing they’ll have a keepsake waiting for them.
Note to jonerz: The added sounds effects were complimentary. You’re welcome, lol.
Jonerz: I have no idea, Joni, how you manged to hold your camera steady at Myrtle Beach! David was simply on fire and it wasn’t from the high temps! lolol WOW-just-WOW I loved that show and the screaming that went along with it. I have to say, depending on my mood, I enjoy BOTH his studio CDs as well as his recorded LIVE performances. Having said that, I have a feeling most of us have huge smiles on our faces & a little racing of our hearts when we listen back to his live shows because it brings back SOOO many wonderful memories and Myrtle Beach is truly one of mine! 🙂
P.S. …not sure I heard Janey’s enthusiastic “sound effects”…I was too busy screaming out my own! I pity the peeps around me that night! lol
I didn’t vote on the poll because I can’t say I enjoy them both EQUALLY…I would much prefer LIVE for reasons I gave above…the “I Love You David (s)” just warm my heart. *last post* ~ I promise 🙂
I love Davids live music! I have no problem with the screaming and clapping. My heart swells 3 sizes when I hear all that David love! It seems one can always pick out that glorious VOICE of his through any of those sounds! 😉
Live D FTW! Angelofdja, I love how you put it. Your heart swells 3 sizes, yep!
Because he always changes it up, one song can sound different on 50 recordings.
And we always pick up on it and discuss it. 🙂
GOOOOOO DAAAVIDDD ❤
Holy Toledo! Live electrifies and studio testifies.
My Ipod plays for “Love Me Tender” live is outrageous, studio plays are in the honorable mention category, 😀
This is perfection…..

Wow, I seem to be in the minority here, lol. While I completely agree that there’s nothing at all like David’s live performances, and his emotion connection in live performance is so much more than in a studio one, I can not handle all the screaming in my earbuds, lol. On my ipod, it’s all studio performances, I barely have any live ones at all (and the ones I do have, I never listen to).
Live performances I need the visuals to go with it. Because I don’t mind the screaming when I’m watching a video of a live performance. I just can’t handle it in my earbuds while walking around downtown, or wherever I am.
I was gonna comment until you stated it perfectly, abanana!
I agree with abanana77. I enjoy hearing him sing live, but when the people recording it on their phones or whatever are screaming their heads off, they should realize that they drown him out and all that comes through are shrill shrieks that about burst my eardrums. I also enjoyed the recording with the MoTab because, although it was live, the crowd was respectful and didn’t scream. So, I voted for studio recordings.
Lolololololol at David showing up at the wrong house. Epic is not too strong of a word.
ikr, “Party Crasher David” FTW! 😆 😆 😆
Hmmmm, my first instinct is to say “live”…. but then I think about the studio recordings, hearing and focusing solely on the voice, and those brilliant backup vocals with a bounty of humming, whistling, yeah-yeahs, and ooooh’s…..hmmmm.
David belongs to that rare breed of musicians who can sing live and make it sound like it is studio-recording – remember the brou-ha-ha over his AOL sessions? So hands down it is the live performances for me when it comes to David.
The studio version for me is like a template of a song. They are the safe and somehow “sterile” Somehow in the confines of a studio, the “David-flavah” is sort of tucked in.
Heck, I even enjoy the screams during his live performances! Cos almost always, David would giggle or laugh and I love to hear his laugh. I only take exception when there is singing in the background from fans who have no business singing along with him! I just want to put up my hands and implore to God, pleaaassseee let’s fast forward to the hard part of the song so fans around me would shut up! 😉
“Party Crasher David” FTW! hahhahahahhaaha
Okay> I voted 50/50….. I seriously love both!!! David live IN PERSON is THE best…. but I do love live recordings and studio cuts equally…. GOTTA HAVE BOTH
Sometimes I enjoy listening to an entire concert, screams and all, other times I love to hear the background vocals of studio cuts> like on Everything and More for instance. Depending on my mood I guess……Would really like a professionally recorded live album one day> one more thing to look forward too!!!
I voted 50/50 too on this poll. Do love both. David live in person is the best of course, nothing like it but must say I love his recorded music too because it’s all about his voice, no interruptions or excited fans (love them) drowning out that voice. Do love all the support, cheers, screams for David too of course that you hear on live fan recordings, it’s pretty wonderful!
I remember what David said once….something like…..he loves the fans to have fun, cheer, etc. on the upbeat and fun songs but for the slower, more sensitive and elongated (believe he used that word) types of songs he wants the fans to listen. I wholeheartedly agree!
….and as refnaf said, a professionally recorded live album one day would be fabulous!
New post/thread!
🙂
