For some reason, felt like revisiting David Archuleta’s Chords of Strength today. Not the whole thing quite yet, but snippets here and there that wonderful tumblr peeps kindly posted. I find it interesting which passages struck home with different people. These are the ones that also jumped out at me … even without an audiobook, I can hear his voice say the words. 🙂
My favourite song from the COS book-signing tour:
P.S.
I could not NOT post this picture.
theres just no one like him, genius
Love the excerpts you selected from Chords of Strength. Love that he thinks of us as a Team of Morale Boosters and appreciates the relationship of fans to his Music. Just re read Chords of Strength not too long ago when David left for his Mission over six weeks ago now!! Love reading it.
HA! Love the picture with David’s Hand cupped behind his ear to Listen. Good capture Naree.
David is wise beyond his years!! I can’t believe he wrote Chords of Strength at such a young age! Love him!!
Pleasing to find someone who can think like that
First of all, Happy Belated Birthday Refnaf!! I didn’t know! Sorry.
I reread the book last summer. The passages you posted are the ones I remember the most. Also how he felt when he sang Imagine, both times.
*getting up to get the book and find the Imagine part now*
Page 139-141 selected lines.
“Singing that song brought me into a mental space of peace & tranquility, a feeling that I could almost see hovering above the crowd that was watching and listening. Both times that I sang this song, I could actually feel it’s impact.”
and
“The reaction of the audience that night told me one thing: They felt what I felt. I would even go as far as saying that it was a life-changing moment for me, because it confirmed what I has always intuitively felt about the power of music. I thought, I’m just this 17 yr old kid from Utah, but with 2 minutes of a song I truly felt something almost electric in the air that touched me and seemed to touch those who were listening.”
Sorry for going on and on – I had to force myself to cut it off when I did, lol. There is clearly more. But that part just kills me. It just does.
Thanks bets…. getting too old for BD’s 🙂
K, reading it again. Well, parts.
Refnaf! You had a birthday! Happy Birthday!
COS is a wealth of Davidisms. I’ve read it five times and probably would have started it again if it weren’t out on loan lol. We are living the excerpts you pointed out. Incredible connection even while away.
(((((dja))))))
bets & dja, you have just convinced me I HAVE to reread the whole thing, like now, lol. I had completely forgotten about what he said about Imagine, wow. & dja “we are living the excerpts you pointed out” … we are, aren’t we??!
And just saw D. trended again tonight! way to go, team!!!

Amazing that David wrote COS at such a young age. It is truly a book for anyone to read, anyone who wants to be touched and inspired by some incredible pieces of wisdom and and some strong sensitivity and insight. I have been reading through parts of it again lately too. I just love having it in my collection of books. Will reread that one time and time again.
Love the excerpts you posted too along with the pics and that video. Love David’s GBTBR to pieces! Never payed much attention to that song until he sang it, wow.
Gosh these quotes guys!!!…… def time for me to reread CoS….. I have not read it since it came out!!!
I was at the book signing when he sang GBTBR …. amazing, even though country is my least fave music, when David does it it WFM!!

Yes I had a great birthday!!! Dinner cake and family!!
Just saw David’s tweet via KS today. 😀 😀 David + Food + Tweets = Love. 😉
When I first read “Chords of Strength” I had so many “A-HA” moments, B.I.G. T.I.M.E. David from his “Imagine” performance, when I first heard him sing until the release of “Chords of Strength” was an enigma to me. How could such a young person speak the language of the ancients, of the soul? I was a goner, hook, line and sinker and fighting being reeled in all the way with all I had. LOL x 1M …at least now it’s pretty amusing. At the time, it was both simultaneously wonderful and horrifying.
And then I read his memoir and so very much fell into place. Peace replaced mystery, so many questions answered. And his self-confidence was definitely in it’s infancy when he co-authored his book. He obviously sees himself, in my view, as a conduit, a shepherd of his talent and artistry, not the originator. Such humility was mind-boggling but given his devoutness, now understood.
And so after David completes his mission, it will be fascinating to see what he absorbs and then translates to his music in the coming years. Confidence breeds definition, action. Can’t wait to see what the next 2 years mission experience brings to David’s music. Kinda like the theme from Jeopardy playing in the background til April 2014.
Dum-dee-dum-dum, Dum-dee-dum, Dum-dee-dum-dum, Dum-dee-dee-dee-dum-dee-dum-dum-dum…
…to be continued in 2014. 😀
oooooo, your whole comment gave me *chills* Ms. Kiz! “it will be fascinating to see what he absorbs and then translates to his music in the coming years” 🙂 🙂 🙂
… and DYING from the cuteness of this pic. the peace sign??? 😆 (thx. to @ohmyjoshashley for RTing)
